Hi, I was wondering if chickens with feathered feet stay warm in winter? I don't have any with feathered feet and won't get any unless they stay warm in winter. It gets down to -35F.
They lay big green/blue eggs. They tend to be lower in the pecking order. Ours really get beat up from our rooster. Our one is an egg eater. they are not all that friendly. They are my shyest birds.
I love my barred rock hens. I used to have a rooster too. The rooster was horrible for meat. the hens lay awesome huge eggs. They sometimes peck on the other younger hens but that is just the pecking order.
We will pick new chicks soon!!!! I need breeds that match all of this : showy birds, cold tolerant, good egg layer, and does well in captivity. Any suggestions ?
Our coop is 10 by 16. We have a mix of straw and shavings in right now. We have shavings in the nesting boxes. The dirt is from outside and poop. We are feeding Purina Layer feed.

We have 32 hens and we get about 23 eggs per day,is that normal? We are having trouble with egg pecking. They stop for awhile then they start pecking again. The nesting boxes get dirty so fast. Any tips for keeping them clean? The chicken coop is a mess. Is there away we could keep it cleaner?
