    Airedales and Chickens?

We get to pick up a3 month old Airedale terrier in a week. I was wondering if anyone had expereience with this breed and chickens. Supposedly they can be trained to leave livestock alone, but chickens are smaller. I have trained Carrine terriers, Yorkies, and Schnauzers to leave them alone...

    Odd texture egg

I forgot, store bought eggs have a thicker white because eggs lose water weight the older they get. My daughter's science fair project was measuring this and her eggs lost 0.5 oz over 3 months which is significant since they were only about 2 oz to start.

    Odd texture egg

Are your chickens easter eggers? I have noticed mine have slightly different whites that the other chickens. The dark yolk just means they have been getting good food. Darker is considered better. Freash eggs are always hard to peel, and I have found they require longer cooking time. You...

Its like a toxic pregnancy...and I dont know what to do

you could try to slip her some chicks after only 10 days. I have heard that after they have set for awhile you can trade out the egs and they will just raise those chicks. At least it will be a shorter span of time sitting.

Has anyone mixed a silkie with an EE?

I had figured that it would be hard to get both the blue gene and the silky feathers. Though, it could be a fun project.

Has anyone mixed a silkie with an EE?

While discussing with my daughter what breeds we would like to add to our flocks, she decided the best would be to add a couple of cute silkies that lay the cool EE eggs. I have a friend with both types of chickens, but she keeps them separate. I was just wondering if anyone had mixed the two.

    Thin egg shells

I have noticed that my chicken egg shells seem to be much thinner that my friend's chicken's egg shells. I was wondering if it was because mine free range and hers stay in a run and only get the feed and a few treats. Both of ours get oyster shell. Mine get organic layer pellets, hers get...

    Need clarification on egg bound

Quote: I didn't even consider that she had gone Broody. She is only 7 months and had only been laying regularly for a month and a half. Right now I am down to one nest box for the 4 of them after the last storm did considerable damage to my coop. That would explain why I keep seeing her...

    Need clarification on egg bound

I have a chicken that I suspect is egg bound. She was bit by a small dog 2 weeks ago That night she slept in my son's room and in the morning laid a shelless egg. She stayed in for a couple more nights just to make sure she was ok. She has not laid an egg since. However she is pooping...

    I Am Getting Them Anyway!!

I had one friend that found out she could have exotic pets but not live stock. So she got silkies and told people they were an exotic tropical ground bird. :lau It worked. But she has always been a bit outrageous. But be careful. In my area we can't have roosters, but one neighbor had one...

    Muddy Coop Club

...it is ROCK HARD in the summer (I dug out a planter bed using a JACKHAMMER instead of a shovel!) and in the winter our yard is one giant lake. *Pout* I hope eventually to rent a subsoiler to rip through alot of the hardpan and clay, and then fill in with compost. But I doubt it'll happen...

Coop is flooded, no roofs, Chickens are almost swimming in water...

I am feeling your pain. 2 nights ago the roof came off my coop as well. I had an early morning freak out since when I first went out I saw no roof and no chickens. Luckily they all stuffed themselves into the nesting boxes which was quite funny looking. We have a very getto looking coop...

Have any of you ever used whey to wash with? I had to get some skin cancer removed a few days ago and the surgeon and I was talking since he was actually very forward thinking about lifestyle being very important. Anyways, he thought it was worth a try to wash with whey and see if it helps...
