This is exactly what I was thinking! Thank you! Do you have a gate into your set up? That's one thing I am struggling with, is building a gate. I am hoping it's not too hard for this non-handy girl.
Chicken math took over this weekend. I added another 4 chicks to my flock for a total of 8. My current coop is big enough for the 8 (though if I add anymore I will have to rethink the coop size), but my run is not. Total run space is about 45 square feet. My new girls will be joining the...
I posted my results with the same coop in a new thread. Thanks for your tips Jerry!

Hi All,
Inspired by this thread from @JerryR708 ( https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/pawhut-chicken-coop.1219726/#post-19503657 ) my husband and I spent about 4 weeks working on our Pawhut 144" coop with attached run (we have limited time so spent a few hours here and hour there). We...
I ended up getting a Chicken Guard door/motor kit. All in it was less than $200 shipped (even though it's made in the UK - 3 day shipping!). I am very happy with the door so far. I bought it based on recommendations I found here and elsewhere. Good luck! An auto door is a lifesaver!
My girls (4 pullets) are almost 7 weeks old, fully feathered and are being evicted from the brooder in my garage tomorrow. We just finished up their coop/run. Our run is dirt floor and are planning DLM on top so I put a thick fluffy (for now) layer of pine shavings and yard trimmings in it. Our...
My girls (4 of them) are 5 weeks and will be going into their coop in 1-2 weeks most likely. I have seen soooo many ideas for feeders/waterers and I’m confused. Can I see some of your setups? Pros and cons? If your set up was DIY - links for tutorials you used? Thanks!
And she's sweet as punch too!
Funny thing is she is the most "flighty" of my girls. She screams her head off when you try to pick her up and will run away like crazy (when all of my other girls will quite literally jump into my hands!), but when she is finally being held she is very sweet.
First time chicken mama here. When can I remove the heat source for my girls? I have 4, 4.5 week old pullets. They are all feathering in very well and I'd say almost completely feather (except one girls seems to be slightly behind). Anyhow, I currently have a brooder heating plate, but the girls...
Vet looked at her today and remarked her skin looked good and was healing well. She said not too worry too much about it being slightly pink as it may just be from being warm, or active...she said no mites, like, infections or yeast/fungi. She said it is most likely neurological and may just be...
I have not seen mites and I've checked several times. The only way I could imagine there being mites is if they are so small I can't see them with my naked eye. I actually made an appointment with a local avian specialist tomorrow afternoon. I am hoping to get some answers. We've become so fond...
Yes, she did scratch until she broke the skin. It was on Saturday night and it was REALLY bad. We’ve been putting neosporin on it and she’s eating/drinking/acting pretty normal so I don’t suspect an infection.
Thanks! We’ve been putting non-pain reliever neosporin, Benadryl cream and vitamin E...
I figured as much. Considering it’s onky been a few days abs she’s stioo scratching every so often it’s not surprising she’s still irritated. My poor baby!
I’m using vitamin E oil, neosporin and Benadryl cream on it. Anyone else have any other suggestions to help it heal faster?
When do Black australorp earlobes start turning red? I have a 4 week old who injured herself by scratching her head a few days ago. Her earlobes are now completely exposed because she scratched all her downy feathers off. Her earlobes were red and raw on Sunday. She’s stopped scratching so hard...
