Hello! I am LOVING BYC!! Soooo happy to be here. We are now the proud owners of 4 chicks. Born July 20th 2009~Lola~Buff Orpington, Little Leia~Black Star, Clucka Bella~Black Australorp, & Stripes~Barred Plymouth Rock. My 4 kids picked out their own & named them. I named Lola for my 2 year...
Our Chook's Clubhouse Coop is made from a child's wooden playhouse. Being short on time & no experience building coops or much of anything, this was our best bet. We wanted it to be attractive & fit in our yard which is not that large. We were only getting 4 hens as that is all we really have...
yes, I read all about the cecal poops. Funny how you can be happy to look at different kinds of poop!
I wouldn't say my girls are too spoiled. I read alot about giving them "treats" so as not to take away from their main food. I actually slowed down during the days I noticed they weren't...
Thanks!!
I soaked the pellets for an hour & fed it to them & they LOVE it! Sheesh, who knew?! Now I feel better that they are eating again. Even our black star is eating it. Maybe this will help her a bit.
I am new to chicken keeping & have never wormed or dealt with sick chickens before. They have been doing well until this.
1) What type of bird , age and weight?
Black star, 6 months old
2) What is the behavior, exactly? sluggish not as active as usual. Sits in one spot puffed up & moves...
Hi,
I noticed my 4 girls aren't eating as much layer pellets these last 2 weeks. I usually have to fill up the feeder every 3 days but I still haven't had too. They love thier table scraps of lettuce, apple peels, etc. I let them free range for about 45 minutes every few days. I give them...
I have my daughter hold my gals & one of them ate the vaseline right off the q-tip that I was using! She looked like she enjoyed it all too well! It was my black star...she eats everything! Now I hold her head as I put it on.....silly chickens!
I use these type in my small coop. I only have 4 hens so it lasts awhile too. I love it cause it stays clean....it does freeze but I can't have it all!

Hi,
You also might want to add some stall dry the pine shavings. It helps keep the poo dry & thus preventing the damp floor. I add some only when I turn it & it feels like it coould use some. After a heavy rain etc.
Hope that helps!
If you are in your neighbors yard at a b-day party for her son when you notice the wonderful weeds! OH, my chickens would love to munch on this grass & I think to myself I wonder If I ask her if I could pick some!!
All we need to do now is add the roofing. Our girls are very happy in their run & we give them lots of treats & of goodies each day.
It was tough figuring out how to attach the run to the house but my hubby did a great job! I could see how someone with building experience would have an easier...
This is the 3rd time I have posted. So forgive me. Now my chicks are older & I thought it may be easier to tell. This chick has always been the biggest of my crew. I only have 4. They will be 13 weeks on Monday. I have also posted in the section what breed or gender is this. Just trying...
I use sand in my coop. LOVE IT!! It takes me 3 minutes to scoop the poo with a kitty litter scooper. So clean & easy! The poo is nice & dry & no flys. I only have 4 pullets & a small coop a tad smaller than 4 by 4. I was wondering about the cold weather too. I will be putting sand in my...
Oh, I forgot to mention my pullets are 10 weeks old as of this Monday!
The pullet in question is on the left.
Thanks for the info on when they may start to crow.
What does it mean if her feet are yellow on the bottom??
Here is a pic? Is that yellow?
I don't know if it is a Jersey giant. It was a replacement chick from My Pet chicken......they told me I was getting a BA.
thanks!
