Best predator proof automatic coop door

It is fantastic! I can't imagine a racoon being able to open this door and it is so nice not having to open and close the door every day. Thanks for recommending it!

Best predator proof automatic coop door

So never mind. I found the answer after digging thru their website. You can purchase an external light sensor for when your unit does not get adequate light. This seems to be a good unit. I think I will get one. Thanks for the suggestion! Sorry about all of the posts.

Best predator proof automatic coop door

So I am able to upload a picture from my phone but not from my computer. Weird. You can see the clear panel across the top. Do you think that would let in adequate light for the sensor?

    Parrot cage placement

I am a Tech, not a Vet but I have extensive experience with birds and I was hired at my current clinic specifically because of that avian experience. I'm glad that I could help.

Best predator proof automatic coop door

We are building the coop into an existing barn. With time the girls will have access to an outdoor run from there. I would like to put 1 automatic door on the coop inside the barn. There is a clear PVC panel at the top in the front of the barn that lets in light. Do you think that would be...

Really that price is not bad. It is comparable with other doors that I am seeing.

    Parrot cage placement

Absolutely put the bird's cage next to a window unless you have a very nervous, flighty bird and the sights out of the window are causing them stress. Most birds love being able to look out of a window. I am a Veterinary Technician of 11 years and I have always worked at avian practices. Hilary

Best predator proof automatic coop door

Hello everyone! It has been ages since I posted last. We have recently moved to the mountains and we are building a new chicken coop. I would like to install an automatic coop door but I want the best one to protect my girls against predators. What would you all recommend? I want something...

Well it is expected to get to -9 tonight. I think I am going to put them in a crate in the garage. My coop is not well insulated. Thanks for the article.

    How cold is too cold?

Hello Coloradans, I'm on the front range and it is currently 9 degrees F. I haven't given my girls a heat source because I am under the understanding that with one they won't acclimate to the cold. They seem fine and they still want out to free range in the yard. Should I be worried about how...

I need your experienced opinions. I only have 2 birds. They are 6 weeks old and look fully feathered in my opinion. The low tonight is going to be 53F. can I start leaving the girls outside overnight?

Hi Danika! I'm Littleton/unincorporated Jefco as well. I just got 2 chicks, enough to provide eggs for our small family and allow us room to grow our flock on e these 2 stop laying. I've wanted chickens for a long time but I have a new baby and I didn't want to deal with jumping through hoops...

Wow ScottLovelandCO, How awful! When my hubby and I first moved to Colorado part of our requirements for a house was that there was no HOA. It sounds like that was a smart move on our part. I have parrots and a large outdoor flight for them. I knew an HOA wouldn't allow my flight. Luckily I have...

jgurshtein, I am in Littleton/unincorporated Jefferson County at Wadsworth & Ken Caryl and we can have up to 6 hens, but that is new. I also have a friend at Sims & Quency that has 8 hens. Someone in Highlands Ranch told me that they are allowed to have chickens there too but I don't know if...

    Chop it off?!!?

I am a Veterinary Technician and I have worked in avian practices for the last 8 years. The only reason to amputate would be if the bird wasn't able to use it and it got in his way or the foot or leg became necrotic. Depending on where the break is it may be able to be splinted and birds heal...

Annav410, I got my chicks at Murdoch's. I sent out a fecal sample and the results came back negative for parasites so I am pleased about that. They are healthy birds. My only complaint is that they were not vaccinated for Marek's. So I had to do that myself. I wish smaller vials of the Marek's...
