Ah, did not know that about the HS, as I have seen some roosters come up for adoption on their website page, but that was years ago. Good to know! So if you drop off a roo, do you pay for the euth for him?

So funny to see so many of us working on runs at the same time. Every day I'm out there trying to get mine done. Spent the weekend staining wood prior to assembling the run. Things always take three times longer than you expect. I set up a temporary pen and let the girls just be outside for a few hours today. They seemed happy up until it got WAY TOO HOT! I knew it wasn't that hot, but they were panting and fluffing their feathers out to cool off It didn't seem that hot out this weekend, but mine spent the weekend hiding in the shade.
Mine did the same thing. Acting like its 100 degrees outside panting. They will only go in the run to eat and drink. Otherwise they're holed up inside the coop. Can't wait to see what they're like when it really is 100 degrees.

Yes it is very tricky. For some reason there is this huge misconception about laying hens. Everyone thinks they're noise, smelly, and destructive. I would rather have a neighbor with 1,000 chickens than a single ankle biting dog.

My neighbors have bees. They can have 4 bee hives in their backyard without a permit or without paying a dime, but I'm restricted to 4 hens, have to have a permit, and they charge for the permit. Makes NO sense.

Anyone catch my hubby on Ice Cold Gold last night?? Its crazy watching him get "famous"!

Today was such a perfect day! I was off work to enjoy it and be productive

AnnaV goregous coop!

jgurshtein,
I am in Littleton/unincorporated Jefferson County at Wadsworth & Ken Caryl and we can have up to 6 hens, but that is new. I also have a friend at Sims & Quency that has 8 hens. Someone in Highlands Ranch told me that they are allowed to have chickens there too but I don't know if that's true.

I so wanted to see this, just my kinda show. Unfortunately I don't get anything but antennae TV. Here's hoping it comes out on (a cheap) DVD. I did go to the website and watch what they had available, looked like quite the experience. Which one was your DH and did you get rich?

So I had a problem with my Pullet-shut automatic door a few weeks ago. For some reason it wasn't closing at dark like it should have. I had to go out every night and close it manually. It was open every morning when I went out, but it wouldn't close at night. Then, it just started working right again. My 'AHA' moment was when it got cold again last week and I felt sorry for the chicks and put my heat lamp back in the coop for a night or two and the door quit closing again. The entire front of my coop is hardware cloth, and there was enough light coming from that lamp to register on the light sensor and keep the door open. What I didn't realize was that 5 minutes (the time the light sensor takes to make the door close) after I manually closed the door, it would reopen, and unbeknownst to me was then staying open all night!! DUH!

So my now 5 1/2 week olds have been getting along with the adults pretty well. They have been moving pretty freely between their half of the run and the adults', so I took their safety fence down yesterday, and they are now mingling fairly well. Can't say they are one big happy flock yet, but the adults aren't trying to kill the chicks. They do NOT allow the chicks anywhere near the treat bowl until they have full crops and have wandered out of sight of the treats. And the babies now run from the adults in more of an 'I think it might be wise if I skedaddle (?) from here' way than the absolute terror of them they used to have. I still have the coop separated, not sure when I'll take that divider down.

Y'all are so busy with your coops. Hope everything is going well on your projects. Thank goodness all I had to do was add an exterior egg box, finished that in March. Next month I'm going to try to figure out how to get a permanent roof/shade cover on my run. Right now I just have sheets that I put up over my bird netting last year, and the wind this spring has finally torn them off so they are of no use.

Well, it's past my bedtime, and I see no one else is on, so y'all must be in bed already. Sweet Dreams.
