Just a quick reminder: The first shipment from Yashar should be here sometime this week. It'll be colloncas this shipment. He promised other breeds next. This is one of the foundation breeds for all green/blue egg layers in the US.

I will also be doing another bulk order for feed the end of May. I still have a few bags left from the last order. Just PM me. Bags are $14.25 for 20% Agland feed.

I'm still wicked behind but wanted to answer this before squirrel syndrome got to me.

I had one of my silkies that also had this. I treated all the babies with vitamins in their water and the situation quickly resolved itself.

The cross beak was not an issue with my Beakers at all. I just had to keep the beak trimmed. I've redone my area now with hot wire so do not believe that I'll have an Anakin attack anymore or he's going to find a nice home someplace else if you want to find your beakers a new home.

As for how I'm doing, I'm ok. One of the hens laying the dark olive egg is still with me. I have an incubator full and the colloncas are on the way sometime this week. The huastecs and others are coming.

I'm still working on a structure that I can put into my hard that they can get under so that if, Gd Forbid, another predator should find itself out there, they can hide. I use to have tablelike structure when they mostly free ranged and it saved them many times. I grew complacent in their new area as it is very secure, or so I thought.

Anyways, the wry neck should resolve itself with vitamins. I've only had one like that and she is actually one of the babies under the broody hen now. She made it but I still supplement their drinking water with poultry vitamins.
I hope it does resolve. Today is day 5 of treatment, and I am not seeing improvement. I have to practically force feed her now, she ate very very little yesterday on her own, and this morning she had an empty crop when I gave her the polyvisol, so I gave her 5 ccs of water and some cooked oatmeal until I thought she had enough in her crop to get through the day - just one little bit at a time, wiped under the upper beak, and she swallows willingly, but struggles each time I give her more, can't tell how much is involuntary due to the neck issue. At rest her head is on the floor with the top of her head resting on the floor, it seems pretty bad to me, but this is the first time I've ever seen it. Bob gave her a little water midday yesterday and will today, but he is afraid to try and feed her.

Glad to hear you have lots in the incubator and some on the way :) We have missed you!

I have Buttercups in the hatcher due tomorrow, and moved the RIR and Black Silkie eggs to hatch phase last night. Buttercups did nto candle well but holding out hope for at least a few. RIR and Silkies candled better, but time will tell.

Received Cream Legbar eggs in the mail yesterday, will set tonight. Such gorgeous eggs. Very much hoping for a decent hatch.

Sharon I wanted to say how happy I am to hear your integration has gone well this year! I remember how you struggled with the GLW last year, fingers crossed nothing like that crops up this year!

My run is about 90% complete. I just need to lay vinyl and dirt.
I cut a hole in the divider (in the coop) last night. Now the chicks can move between the flock and safety freely. Hopefully they can get along!

are you sure its wry neck? When my little one had it, it looked as though she was constantly looking up and had a very, very hard time holding her neck up. I forced fed her to eat the first couple of days and just left her under the broody. I'm actually surprised that she didn't die at some point with all the things going on. She was the biggest of them. Hmmm, she isn't full silkie either though. She's a mix between silkie and EE. Maybe mutt vigor helped? I know I was crestfallen after she was hatched because she was beautiful with what looked like full beard and muffs and the extra toe.

I found out my schedule starting in 2 weeks. It's awesome! We go on two weeks cycles so do 6 twelves and 1 eight hour day. I'm going from 730pm to 8am so am quite, quite happy. So far, I love the job at the VA. I'm a veteran so it just means that much more to me to serve other vets. The best part of the schedule is it will cut down tons on traffic and parking will be easy and I'll be home during the day.

I tried cream legbars that came from Texas. No luck at all with them. sigh.

jgurshtein,
I am in Littleton/unincorporated Jefferson County at Wadsworth & Ken Caryl and we can have up to 6 hens, but that is new. I also have a friend at Sims & Quency that has 8 hens. Someone in Highlands Ranch told me that they are allowed to have chickens there too but I don't know if that's true.

It's my understanding that HR allows chickens, but so much of Highlands Ranch is under HOA, and that's where your restrictions come in.

The HOA actually allows 4 hens!
There you go! Hopefully that will provide enough eggs for your personal consumption

I am assuming that's what it is - it came on very suddenly, she is almost 3 months old and was fine Thursday morning, Thursday night when I got home she had her head almost on the floor looking at the ceiling with her left eye. she can straighten it enough to peck at food a little, but cannot keep it straight, and as I said yesterday she barely ate, which leads me to believe it's gotten worse. She can't hold her head and neck in the correct position, and almost acts as if she has a broken neck. I don't have the sense she is suffering, but if that changes I will put her down. Right now I will give it a bit longer to see if it turns around. I guess meanwhile I should scout up some pictures of wry neck.
