It's actually looking like a pink eyed dilute pearl now as it's getting creamy coloured feathers, not sure if it's male or female though. It's 3 weeks old now and in a cage on it's own as others won't take to it, but I handle it daily.
I also have a pink eyed chick which I'm not sure is an Albino. I can put my fingers by it's face and it doesn't move, so not sure if it has limited vision or is blind. It's on its own as the other chicks bully it.
Here it is with a Bagpuss cuddly toy, as it's on its own, not sure if it can see properly, but other chicks don't seem to accept it. I will post pics as it grows.
I think it's a male, as it has rust vent feathers, he's 5 weeks old at the moment, and he's taken 2 tiny chicks under its wing, that were the only survivors out of 11 eggs, I'm sure they think it's their Mum, and vice versa, so cute to see them nesting underneath him. I was also told by the...
I wanted to keep a male chick just to keep the older male company, it won't be staying in with its mum. I wanted to stop mating for a while to let the female have a break from the male, as he mates her several times a day, and she is going bald. I am also hoping to get another female chick from...
I have a male and female button quail, I incubated their eggs as she wouldn't sit on them. They are now a week old, and I have introduced the mum to them, and after a few days she seems to have accepted them. The question is, how do I introduce the dad to them? I tried to introduce him with the...
I'm going to see if I can get some game bird starter or turkey starter from the Market today, thank you for all your help. I incubated and hatched them both myself, so wouldn't want any of them to get poorly. Button was stuck in his egg, so I had to help him out. I've got their first batch of...
Thankyou for the advice, I will get a bag of game bird starter, I'm getting it from pets at home, so which one would you recommend? She also has a few dried meal worms a day. Just checked her vent again, and it's ok today, looks nearly back to normal again.
I have put some hay in the box on the left, but she still won't sit on the eggs. She has oyster shell, chick crumb, finch food and mashed up boiled eggs, but is there anything else you could suggest I give her to bump protein and calcium intake up?
I have them in a 4 foot 2 tier rabbit hutch in my living room, so light comes in naturally throughout the day. I've covered some of the hutch to try and dim it a bit, should I close the curtains earlier in the evening though? I'm a little concerned about her vent which is red and swollen, is...
I have a male and female button quail together, she lays an egg a day but won't sit on them, so I put them in the incubator. I need to stop her laying for a while, and have reduced the light she gets. The question is, and I don't want to sound thick, is, will she still lay while the male is...
She has got a dark corner under the electric hen, which isn't turned on though, she made her nest out of the hay I put underneath it. I covered that end of the cage with a towel for more privacy for her, the light is hanging through the top of the cage on the opposite side to her nest. I read...
Thankyou for replying, she has stopped sitting on the eggs and hasn't been back to the nest for a few hours now, but has laid another egg, so now there are 8. Shall I turn the led bulb off to encourage her to sit? I put it on to encourage her to lay in the first place.
My button quail laid 7 eggs and is now sitting on the nest, my male is looking rather rejected and lonely, but is still in the cage with her. Do I leave him in or remove him, as he was helping with the nest building, but will he help with the sitting and be ok when the chicks hatch?
