3 hens are 25 weeks old and no eggs yet. BR, EE, Welsummer. We are in the Bay Area and daylight lasting just under 12 hours now. Is it better to let them mature naturally and get eggs in the spring? Will I just get little eggs now if it is more light they need? Thanks!

I am hoping my adultish kids' old ikea umbrellas will provide a little shelter while chickens are free ranging for short periods. Perhaps the eyes on the umbrellas will scare the hawks too?

Has anyone used this galvanized bucket waterer? What did the old timers use to water their chickens? I would like to avoid keeping the water in any kind of plastic.
