#4 FINALLY hatched (19 hrs after pipping)!! And on top of that it looks like it will be a blue! Woohoo! So excited that all 4 made it.
Congrats to everyone else on their hatches! I know I will have to join the May HAL as soon as my new eggs get here. Did I mention this is addicting? Lol!
3 out of 4 hatched last night!! Of course I was up at 1:30AM to watch them. Lol. I'm thinking that I have one of each since they are all slightly different colors. Blue, black, AND splash! Number 4 is pipped and rocking. Can't wait to see what it looks like.
Yup... This is dangerously...
Thank you! I'm so nervous. Started with 18. 14 were unfertilized and even though the breeder is sending me more eggs these are already so precious to me! Please please please all hatch! lol
Officially started day 21 at 730pm tonight. Two out of my 4 have pipped and are cheeping up a storm!! Hoping the other two pip tonight and didn't quit on me. Fingers and toes crossed!!
Lockdown tonight!! Two of the four remaining BBS orp eggs were rocking already. Is that normal? Hope my incubator wasn't running too hot. Can't wait to see that first pip!
Oh my I love seeing all the little fuzz balls! Keep the pictures coming! It helps me pass the time while I count down the days to my own feather babies! :) Day 12 here and the suspense is ALREADY killing me!
That's the frustrating part. It seems that most of the farm stores in my area aren't getting chicks in. Which seems really strange! Maybe it's "late" in the season? Idk... It's weird. So I'm hoping for some suggestions of breeds so I can do a narrower search of area breeders and if I have to...
Hi all!
I'm currently incubating some BBS English orpingtons. Only 4 eggs are developing and they will be my FIRST chickens. So.... I'm thinking I would like to purchase some day old chicks close to hatch day so that they have some friends ( and we don't end up with one or two very lonely chicks...
Candled all 18 of my BBS orp eggs last night (day 10). There are definitely only 4 developing. The 14 others are ALL clears! but on a positive note. Talked to the breeder I purchased them from and he is splitting his breeding group and will send me more eggs to try again. So thankful for...
Thank you for the reassurance! I will wait a few more days and try looking again. Especially since this is my first attempt I wasn't expecting great results but was hoping more were fertilized to start with! Fingers crossed that I just missed some veining! :)
Candelled my 18 BBS orp eggs this afternoon. It will be day 7 at 730pm today. I'm an absolute newbie so I'm not 100% sure but it looked like only 4 or 5 of them were developing and the others looked like clears. is it possible that since they are all brown eggs that I just can't see the veining...
Thanks JackE! Love those fluffy butts! :) are you using the deep liter method? Or just making sure there is always sufficient "padding" for the landing. Wondering if the added expense of more bedding is worth the ability to safely have higher roosts?
Also LOVE the idea of being able to remove...
Hi guys and gals!
I've been dubiously scouring the site for an answer to this but have so far come up empty handed. I am currently designing my coop for my English BBS orpingtons. My question is how high of a roost is safe for larger birds? These are expected to be 7-8lb hens with 9-10lb...
Hi all!!
Just set 18 BBS Orpington eggs last night! This is my very FIRST incubation. Using a FI 4250 and the "dry hatch" method. So far temps holding steady and humidity around 25-27%. Fingers crossed!! :)
I think I have solved the problem. Tried turning the fan which didn't help but DH had a good idea. The exterior wall was holding steady so why not just avoid the hotspot all together? Egg turner has been moved 90 degrees so it's running the long way against the exterior wall. Perfect temps...
