    CHICKEN NIPPLES HELP

Your birds will figure it out in no time. If you use nipples with cups under the nipples fill them up yourself and they will catch on. Then you will never have to clean another dirty water dish again.

Now I'm starting the waiting game. Looking forward to some large brown eggs, and maybe some blue ones. 1/10/10 Finally got...

    If you have a dog.....

We have lots of dogs here. 4 pugs, 1 Boston terrier, and 1 pit bull. The pit bull is fine with the chickens, and I don't think the pugs would bother them. Then there is the Boston terrier. She has killed two chickens on two different occasions. She lives to get at the chickens. I think if there...

tried to introduce some chicens to my flock neck is open wound

Get the wound cleaned up so there is no blood present. There is a product sold at feed stores that is call No-Peck, or I'm sure they have something similar, that you can apply to the wound that will keep the others from pecking at her. Good Luck!

    New Puppies

I'm sorry I have been neglecting BYC and not posting puppy pictures. The puppies are 8 weeks old and are going to new homes today. At least four out of six are. As it turns out in order for me to keep the male I want, my wife has to have the female that's not spoken for. Just so happens they are...

How long will a hen stay broody?

Quote: From what I have found out so far, it has nothing to do with having a rooster. It's their hormones. I don't think mine would come off the nest if I didn't take her off. If it's only been four days for your hen you might consider finding some fertile eggs for her to sit on. I figure...

How long will a hen stay broody?

I have a hen that's been staying in the nest box for three weeks now. I keep taking her out so she can eat and drink, but she goes right back in to the nest box. She doesn't have any eggs. She just won't come out of the box. I don't have a rooster, so no fertile eggs. Do I have to go out and get...

Broody chicken - Need some advice...

I have a broody hen also. My problem is, I have no rooster and the eggs aren't fertile. She doesn't eat and I have to reach under her to collect the eggs. Yesterday I picked her up out of the nest box and brought her around the coop and run and put her down with the food. She ate and then went...

    Mouse colony under the coop.

I would be a little leary about poison so close to your birds. Put peanut butter in the snap traps, they cant resist it.

    New coop in progress

Sounds like you are on your way. I think those girls may need that light a while especially if it's still cold at night. 5 weeks is pretty young to be out in the coop. If they make it they should be hearty. Watering chickens is a drag the next thing you need to do is set up a nipple watering...
