Help!!!! I castrated my only intact male back in Oct. I really thought I had made it through without a pregnancy-- I have 4 goats and they are simply pets. Well went to do their hooves today and noticed that 1 (only 1 ) of my girls now has teats and her vulva seems swollen or maybe just...
That's what I was afraid you would say- still hoping someone out there has a bright idea. LOL .. I do have a door between them that I use during the day- then the goats get put up and the ducks/chickens have access to the food all night.
As stated above I have all 3 types of critters- they share the same run- except I have to keep the poultry food from the goats because from what I understand the poultry food can kill my goats. Does anyone have a feeder that ducks and chickens can eat from but goats can't get into? Especially...
I can't believe it! We lost our tom (named Fred) this spring, our hen (Red) laid a lot of eggs, and was a very, very good mother (sitting on eggs, and taking care of her babies). After the babies were of an age, she started disappearing at night and coming back in the am. We were afraid we...
Going to try the umbrella trick and see... lately I've had to put him in his place everyday. He's started to fly at me.. I get behind him and put his head down.... the same way I've seen them do to the chickens and ducks. Once he realizes I'm the alpha- he lets me get on with my business. But...
Our Tom started getting aggressive with me (only me- not my husband) about a week ago. I'm not sure why- it's in the middle of winter- so I have changed clothes. Sometimes I wear a white coat, sometimes brown- always with hat, scarf and gloves on. (It's around negative 10 degrees so the coats...
I'm really hoping it turns out to be a hen not a rooster- out of the 12 eggs that we hatched last time- 11 were roosters and one hen. I need some girls!!!! LOL
Sorry I didn't get back to you- my daughter in law had her baby that night so... Any way we did end up putting her down. She?He? was having 2 or 3 seizures every hour- more or less and decided with life a little crazy because of new grandbaby- it was the best thing for everyone. None of our...
One of my ducks just started doing this today. So what is recommended? Should I let it continue or should I humanely dispatch it? Do you think it can give this problem to my other ducks? Mine is a peking about 2 months old. Please let me know if anyone has an opinion on this.
I really don't remember about specific eggs because all of them were during Christmas eve/Christmas day- and my world was a little busy. I'm attempting to attach a picture or two but I'm new at this. I think I did it- let me know. Thanks
Almost two weeks ago I had quail, duck and a chicken eggs ready to hatch. With luck most of the eggs hatched Christmas eve and Christmas day. That was wonderful!
I now have 10 cute quail, 4 ducklings and 1 chick. Here's my question- this chick looks different from any other chick I have...
You were so right about the water! I used the lid to a frosting container and didn't even fill it. Lost one of the little ones and he was soaking wet- I can only assume it was because of the lid. Now I've taken a slightly larger lid- cut a piece of hardware cloth to fit, bent the edges and...
The space is 12' x 12' room height to keep 2 peacocks and 3 ducklings in- just until winter is over and/or the ducks are old/big enough to join our adult ducks. We'll be building something specific for the peacocks next spring.
Yes they are pretty much fully feathered. We have used sun lamps (ones I use for my gardening ) put them high enough that they can't come in contact with anything but low enough to give some heat.
Thank you both. It does help. I guess they will remain our basement guests for a while (lol), no problem- I've cleaned poop with the best of them. We believe they are peking ducks but we also have adult Khaki ducks. So not sure of the mix yet. There feathers appear to be coming in white...
