I have a mama Muscovy sitting on eggs right now! Here in the humid south of South Carolina I haven’t had any problems, I let the hens take care of them.

Hello SCmommahen Over by Clinton myself, we had a big variety like you have, the trouble makers were Rhode Island reds and white leghorns, the rest did fine together. I’m down to the Americana rooster and 1 RR hen, she’s getting ready to head to freezer camp. We picked up 4 Silver Wyandot this...

Outside Clinton here, down to 1 Rhode Island hen and 1 Americana rooster, 12 Muscovy coming on March 1. We had a dozen mixed flock originally but lost some to predators and gave the rest away over time. A dozen egg layers is to many eggs for 2 people! Lol Adding quail I think later on. We did...

What did you do in the garden today?

Permit for CC but open carry isn’t allowed. I live in the woods so carry every time I’m outside, have knocked possum/raccoon population down, only managed to scare off a couple coyotes though.

Best Substance for Sealing Inside Coop Crevices and Joints?

I forgot, I would use a latex caulk myself, the chickens may be prone to try to pull it out and eat it though.

Best Substance for Sealing Inside Coop Crevices and Joints?

Howdy neighbor! (Clinton) I didn’t seal all the joints myself, I used shipping crate boards and made it look like an old time building. on the inside I mixed up whitewash and bought a cheap harbor freight sprayer and blasted everything with it. It has done a great job keeping the bugs down. I...

What did you do in the garden today?

Deep mulch using straw or hay about 18” think to start. I throw leaves, grass, yard weeds on top as it all naturally mulch’s itself. Weeds are few and far between which is unheard of here in the sunny upstate of South Carolina. The hay holds the moisture in the dirt even through our 90+ degree...
