More chicks!
All of the new Bismark x Shiva that might be wild type.
All of the new Bismark x Cream chicks. We'll be keeping the light colored one at the bottom.
The Bismark x Shiva wild types from last hatch.
Lots of genes to choose from and stabilize, but it'll be worth it 👍
We did it!!!
We hatched two wild type chicks, with one possibly having the dilute gene?
Both are Bismark x Shiva.
Fingers crossed that they're also blue egg layers and long tailed.
Bismarks tail is coming in slowly but surely.
I just realized that I didn't post the picture of Bismark when he was a baby. Shiva was the same color as well. We kept one of the yellowish chicks and it turned out to be a buffish shouldered bird. We kept Bismark over the other male because the other male had a small crest, Cr/cr+.
Bismark in...
More Bismark x Shiva babies!
I would imagine that the chicks on the left do not have the RSY diluter gene as they don't show that greyish color like the ones on the right. Super excited to see how they turn out.
Very minor difference in color but the chick on the right is lighter than the chick on the left...
Different genders or different genes?
Chick on the right could have the barring gene. They also look like they have the wild type pattern. Could that be the case?
Shiva's chicks hatched!
Bismark: E/e+, O/o, RSY/rsy+, rrpp+/rrpp+
Shiva: Same as above.
Anyone care to guess what their babies might have inherited? 😅
We're looking to keep any chicks that might be e+/e+ if possible. We'll also be testing said chick or chicks for the blue egg gene once they...
Hello again!
The project is still going strong, just not enough time to update as often...
The babies from the last pictures are all grown up and have replaced the main flock.
The male (Bismark) is, Shinji x Fye's sister.
The blue female (Shiva) is, same as above.
The spangled buff female...
Update time!
The last 6 days of egg production.
From left to right: Sandy, Emma, Hugh Mungus, Fye’s Sister, Fye.
Fye and her sister started to lay 6 days ago. I found this method of collecting eggs quite easy to keep track of 👍
Here are the chicks that have hatched from Hugh Mungus. The ones...
All the hens are laying!!!
Super interested in Fye and her sister’s eggs.
We also hatched the first batch of Hugh Mungus’ chicks. She was with Chesterfield and Shinji for the first couple of eggs.
Update time!
From left to right: Hugh, Sandy and Emma.
Hugh Mungus has produced 18 eggs so far. Her first egg was on the 10th of July. We have 16 of her eggs in the incubator. The first 5 she was paired with Chesterfield. The rest are with Shinji, or meant to be. Definitely can’t wait to see...
Niederr X Phoenix cross. Unfortunately, she didn’t come out buff. Just trying to see what genes presented themselves.
Fye. Should be laying very soon… Hopefully.
Just some photos I took over the weekend. Everyone is doing well 👍
I was hoping that it would have a lot of info on the long tail genes but there are only 3 pages that talk about them. The book is quite good though, after doing a quick read through. Skin and leg color genes are talked about in depth, something I had not taken into consideration. Egg color...
