Best way to introduce buff color into a flock? (New chicken breed)

Niederr X Phoenix cross. Unfortunately, she didn’t come out buff. Just trying to see what genes presented themselves.

Fye. Should be laying very soon… Hopefully.

Just some photos I took over the weekend. Everyone is doing well 👍

Emma, Shinji’s sister, laid her first egg!

It’s more on the green side but I’ll take it 👍

Update time!

From left to right: Hugh, Sandy and Emma.

Hugh Mungus has produced 18 eggs so far. Her first egg was on the 10th of July. We have 16 of her eggs in the incubator. The first 5 she was paired with Chesterfield. The rest are with Shinji, or meant to be. Definitely can’t wait to see how they come out!
Sandy has only produced 2 eggs so far. One on the 28th and another on the 30th. Same feed as Hugh Mungus. She is paired with Chesterfield. She might have inherited the Yokohama egg production lol.
Emma has produced 3 eggs since the 28th of July. She is paired with Chesterfield.

I recently came across the Pumpkin Hulsey and really like their color. So much so, than I’m thinking about implementing them into the project.

All the hens are laying!!!
Super interested in Fye and her sister’s eggs.

We also hatched the first batch of Hugh Mungus’ chicks. She was with Chesterfield and Shinji for the first couple of eggs.

Update time!

The last 6 days of egg production.
From left to right: Sandy, Emma, Hugh Mungus, Fye’s Sister, Fye.

Fye and her sister started to lay 6 days ago. I found this method of collecting eggs quite easy to keep track of 👍

Here are the chicks that have hatched from Hugh Mungus. The ones on the right side of the box are from Chesterfield. The two on the left are from Shinji. We have 6 more eggs in the incubator for Shinji and all the ones on the tray. The variation in colors is amazing! Especially that blue? lav? Red shoulder diluter?

Does anyone have an idea what color the chick might be?

Plenty more to come!

Hello again!

The project is still going strong, just not enough time to update as often...

The babies from the last pictures are all grown up and have replaced the main flock.

The male (Bismark) is, Shinji x Fye's sister.
The blue female (Shiva) is, same as above.
The spangled buff female (Peaches) is, Chesterfield x Hugh Mungus.
The brown female (Cream) is, same as above.

All females have recently started laying and indeed Shiva laid a blueish green egg. She's definitely O/o, same as her brother.

We will be keeping Peaches but won't be using her eggs, nor Creams.

We ordered some Buff Minorcas to introduce the buff color, improve the egg color to be closer to blue, improve egg size and hopefully keep a relatively long tail established.

We also got super lucky and were able to get a hold of some some quality Phoenix eggs. The breeder was also working on a buff Phoenix project but didn't have the space to continue working on them. He had a wheaten based Phoenix male that we were able to get a couple of egg fertilized by him. Fingers crossed that they come out wheaten as well 👍.

Also ordered a couple more Yokohama's as a backup.

Peaches is actually spangled, not mottled, she’s very pretty.

Shiva's chicks hatched!

Bismark: E/e+, O/o, RSY/rsy+, rrpp+/rrpp+
Shiva: Same as above.

Anyone care to guess what their babies might have inherited? 😅

We're looking to keep any chicks that might be e+/e+ if possible. We'll also be testing said chick or chicks for the blue egg gene once they are older. The eggs were all together so the egg shell method wouldn't be of use to us.

Any tips or recommendations are always well received. Constructive criticism is also welcomed 👍

We're all here to learn 😁
