Thank you! I give the birds crushed eggshells, which don’t seem to interest them much, tbh. So, I thought maybe they had enough calcium and that’s why they didn’t want them, but I will order some oyster shell to see if that helps. One of the birds is molting. If she is as well, I guess that...
What is the calcium supposed to help with? Is it just in case she is egg bound and to help her pass the egg? Do you have any other suspicions about what may be wrong?
Hot! Very hot! But the hens have had plenary of shade and cooler places to hide out. When I’m home, they have full access to the yard and garden beds. They like to hang out under the coop when they can’t be in the yard. The other three hens seem perfectly normal. I can’t help but think the...
I haven’t seen poop. She has a little bit this morning. It was normal color but thin and not much, more than a teaspoon, less than a tablespoon.
i gave her one tums. She spit it, so I broke it into smaller pieces. She spit it. So I crushed it and mixed it with west food and she ate a little...
Hello!
I need some help helping my favorite hen. She is about 18 months old. The night before last I went out to close up the coop and she was in the nesting box with egg yolk all over her. No shell in sight. The next day I went to check on her and she was very subdued. Since then, she has been...
I did not. I ended up getting another horizontally sliding door, which I like. But, it scares me a little because the safety feature only works if something is already there when it tries to close. If something crosses the opening when the door is in progress, it won’t trigger. So, I have it set...
Has anyone used the Pullet-shut door? That one is interesting to me. It doesn’t have the safety sensor, but I’m wondering if it isn’t safer simply due to the way the door opens/closes. If you have one, or if you have used one, please let me know what you think about it. TIA...
Thanks! I definitely want the safety sensor. I was shopping on Amazon (almost always creates more confusion from too many products), and I read multiple reviews where birds were crushed or decapitated. I can’t even imagine…
Thanks @Debbie292d!
One other note for anyone who wishes to reply. I should have noted that the door will open to a covered run on the north side of the house. It will very likely not get enough light to operate a light sensor accurately.
Hello! We are building a new coop and want to add an automatic door. Unfortunately, there are SO many products out there that we are having a hard time knowing which will be best. We don't necessarily need a bunch of bells and whistles, but we do need:
1. Timer
2. Battery (with solar is a...
