Try a no-crow collar if you want to keep him. Our rooster does pretty well with it as long as it's relatively tight. He can still crow, but it's much quieter than any noise the hens make. I also keep him inside the coop at night. That seems to deter the crowing.
We also have 10 hens and probably have 2 roosters (one for sure and the other suspect). Since they're the same age, they seem to get along okay. One is a blue cochin and the other is a gold crested polish. The poor polish can hardly see because of the huge crest, so there isn't much competition...
The no crow collar doesn't stop them completely, but I go out and just mine's collar every time he crows and he's learned not to do it very often because he hate when I adjust it! lol
A friend of mine got them for me from a hatchery in Idaho I think. She just told me I was getting chickens and brought them over! lol I'll ask her and let you know.
The blue cochin roosters are beautiful, and the two I've had both had great personalities too. This latest one, though, is scared of everything. Kinda funny, but hope he gets over it.
They're sweet, too. They do lay smaller eggs, but they tend to have big yolks. I'm not sure if that's common, but that's what these girls do. You need to get some to go with your rooster!
Here are the three partridge girls. Two of them are molting, so they're not the prettiest. They're good tempered birds, though the one I call Squaka complains any time anything is different - and she's pretty loud about it. lol
He is pretty! I will get some pics of my partridge girls. Two of them are molting right now, so they're looking a little rough. lol I'll try to send later today.
Thanks! Margaret is the sweetest girl and even comes when I call her name. Grayson is also a sweetie, though he's not so thrilled with me since I put the collar on him. I get a lot of nasty side-eye looks from him now. He is also afraid of my older girls and high-tails it behind the coop every...
Just wanted to post a pic of my pretty boy, Grayson. Hadn't intended to have a rooster, but since I got one we've bought a "no crow" color for him and are going to try to keep him. So far, he hasn't crowed (he's about 5 months old), so maybe it's working.
Also a photo of Margaret, who's the...
I've included some photos of one of my polish chickens, Brownie, who is about 4 months old. Supposed to be female, but now I'm wondering. We trimmed her/his topknot early on, so the shape probably isn't what it should be.
I've also included a pic of our blue cochin rooster...
Right at 6 months. I'm really sad if it's a rooster, because I can't keep a rooster! This is my favorite bird, too. Anything I can do to know for sure?
If it's a rooster, you know anyone who wants a pretty blue cochin?
