Cochin Thread!!!

I have two partridge Cochins that I love. Thelma and Louise. Louise is not feeling well and I'm wondering if anyone might know how can treat her. She is slumpy with feathers down and color is pale. I did find mites on her late this evening. Could this be causing this much distress or is there a med I could give her. She is not gaining weight like the other also.

I picked up a Partridge Cochin back in April on a whim. I knew they had pretty feathers and I wanted to add one to my flock. I love her. She's the bottom of the pecking order and gets chased a little bit. Last to come into lay. But she really is beautiful. I love the sound her feathers make as she drags them across the patio.

Mites can cause a chicken to be sick. I wouldn't wait to medicate. Start googling and/or posting on some threads. If chickens are not eating or drinking they could die fast. Keep us updated.

Ok looked up what to use. There are several threads already started on here on leg mite treatment. If suggest if she's already physically effected to just skip the could work treatments and go right to Ivomec, an injectable insecticide. Check out the other threads too.

She's beautiful! What is it about Cochin's and patios?! Lol Mine hang out on my deck every day. I always say they are lounging in their "onesies"

One peewee sized Cochin egg. Laid out in the run again today. Has a few peck marks on it but thankfully, then hens can't crack open these teeny tiny eggs. It's got a really nice shell on it.

Lol I think my little old English banties lay bigger eggs! So cute....can't wait for my Cochin's to start laying. They are almost 6 months and don't look close to starting. And since I'm in Canada and winter is fast approaching I'm wondering if they may just hold off until spring My other hens are just beginning molt and I'm hoarding whatever eggs they are still laying as I can see me having to BUY EGGS to eat before too long. Blaaaagh!!!

Agree with the other comments. I think Ivermectin is the quickest/easiest, if I remember correctly. Let us know what you find out.
(I have a Thelma/Louise pair of OEGBs... but I don't know which is which now... lol)

The blue cochin roosters are beautiful, and the two I've had both had great personalities too. This latest one, though, is scared of everything. Kinda funny, but hope he gets over it.
