Cochin Thread!!!

Thanks. She is a sweetie. I hatched her from a random mix of eggs. I like having a variety of breeds and colors.
I have a friend who is a breeder that specializes in cochins. She does ship. If you are interested, pm me and I will pass on her contact info.

Just wanted to post a pic of my pretty boy, Grayson. Hadn't intended to have a rooster, but since I got one we've bought a "no crow" color for him and are going to try to keep him. So far, he hasn't crowed (he's about 5 months old), so maybe it's working. Also a photo of Margaret, who's the same age. I also have 3 partridge cochin hens that are about a year and a half. Only one of them has gone broody, but I separated her and kept her cool and she came out of it pretty quickly - then immediately did a complete molt.
Gorgeous! This is my boy King. He's 8 months I think and I've never heard him crow. He's with a Blue Copper Marans rooster so maybe that's why.

Do you have pictures of your Partridge hens? I ordered a Partridge hen and got a rooster :-( I had wanted to make Blue Partridge cochins. :-(

He is pretty! I will get some pics of my partridge girls. Two of them are molting right now, so they're looking a little rough. lol I'll try to send later today.

Anyone else find that their Cochins struggle to figure out that the nest boxes are for laying eggs?

My girls only started laying a few weeks ago. And while I do find a few eggs in the nests. I find just as many on the ground in the run and dropped from the roost in the early morning hours.

It's not a big deal. Their eggs are so small that they are next to impossible to crack so the other hens were not able to peck open the eggs dropped in the run and I collected them later in the day. My two Cochins are clearly the bottom of the pecking order and while no one really pecks at them, a few of the Buff Orpingtons snarl at them which causes them to quickly move away. So maybe they are still kind of scared?

I don't have that problem. Maybe because the eggs are so small they don't even know they are laying them. Maybe they think it's a big poop.

Ha Ha. It's entirely possible. Their eggs are these teeny, tiny almost perfectly round eggs that have the most beautiful glossy shell on them. They just just pop out. They look so funny in the egg carton next to my Jersey Giant eggs and my 8lb BO's eggs which are also HUGE.

It's not a big deal. I'm just new to Cochins and figuring them out. They seem to be on the shy side and maybe this is all just scary and new to them.
