My bantam easter egger is about 9.5 weeks old now and I was confident she was a pullet before, but her comb is looking pretty pink and wide. I know easter eggers are difficult, but let me know your thoughts on this one!
Comb picture:
Here's one where she's facing the camera.
Yeah I know the straight comb is recessive, which makes me wonder how you get a silkie with a straight comb as they should have both the rose and pea comb genes, lol. I'm mostly wondering about this silkie's gender. I want to know if the red on the wings and the possible streamers indicate it's...
Your cockerel is beautiful! Mine is definitely getting some pretty splashes coming in and his hair is starting to look like a rockstar, lol. Hopefully mine waits a very long time to start crowing, I want to hold on to him for as long as I can!
It depends on what you order for the meal maker: if you get all pullets, you'll have a pullet, if you get broilers, you'll get another unsexed broiler. The homestead helper is the one that's always a rooster.
Yeah, I think getting an opal legbar as your free mystery chick isn't too uncommon because they have an excess every hatching (due to their excessive price of $70). I've seen other threads where people have reported receiving one as their mystery chick as well. So maybe you'll get lucky like I did!
Pictures from today at about nine weeks... I love this little boy so much but once he starts crowing I doubt we can keep him. Anyone in the DMV area in need of a sweet splash Polish cockerel?
I think your "splash marans" rooster is likely paint instead- one copy of the dominant white gene, with black leakage (the "splashes"). That would explain why the chick isn't blue. It's possible the rooster is gold/silver split (as he has red leakage but also a silver daughter) but I'm not an...
I'm mostly wondering due to the deep red on the wings and back. I usually see that as a male trait. Can females have it too? Also, I can't tell anything about wattle growth because this silkie is bearded. I can get better comb pics if necessary.
I just want to know because I don't want anyone...
Hello all, we recently purchased a partridge silkie pullet to add to our bantam flock and I'm starting to doubt whether "she" is not a he. The seller couldn't give an exact age, but I'd guess around 10-12 weeks. It's also not a very well bred silkie, as it has a straight comb as opposed to the...
Still hoping that she has a chance to be a pullet, but I'm doubting.. If she ends up being a he, hopefully he's very quiet! We're not supposed to have roosters where we live, but I'm not opposed to keeping one under the radar. Loud crowing, however, is not exactly conducive to secrecy!
