They started doing this about a week ago (which makes sense as there are 12 eggs and they lay each an egg a day). Temps have been low/rainy.. that’s why I was wondering. But yeah, better play it safe. Thank you!!!!
Hi everyone!
I have two shamo hens in my flock. I thought they had stopped laying because I wasn’t finding any of their eggs in the coop. Today, I was walking around straightening their electric fence, and I bumped into a nest they had made in the woods! It had 12 eggs in it!
My question is...
Well, this story has come to an end!
My silkie has found a forever home with a very sweet teenage girl. She came with her dad to pick her up today.
She will live with a cochin bantam! I hope they become best friends.
Thanks everyone who followed this journey and offered support!! :) :) You...
I have a silkie in need of a new home... Read the story here:

It's currently recovering very well (same treatment: nutri drench, neosporin and lots of TLC :)). Not sexed yet. Born on 4/23/14. It...
I have a 3 month old (hatched on April 23rd, 2014) silkie who is not sexed yet. It needs a new home either as a single pet or as a part of an ALL SILKIE flock. The reason? This chick is extremely docile and too nice to be with other chickens. It was attacked and scalped by other chicks her same...
I won't set up another coop. I have a state of the art setup for the whole chicken area. The coop is huge and fully automated, seals perfectly at night to protect the girls from predators. They forage in a wooded area surrounded by electric fence and covered with hawk netting. There they can...
So... integration was over a few days ago. Silkie was doing well with the flock. After a couple of nights showing her how to go up the ramp, she started going in the coop at night. Everything was going great! She was one with the flock!
Or so I thought.
Today, she was attacked AGAIN. Not by...
Well, the scab broke into several parts and the last piece fell off today!! That means.... No more open wound!!! My baby made it!
I'm not sure if new feathers will grow on the new skin (there are new feathers on the outer skin that healed first). Time will tell but that doesn't really matter...
Thank you everyone for your advice. I'm going to wait until he is fully healed and then I'll start to try integrating him/her slowly. How long do silkies take to reach maturity?
He was with two sebrights and one cochin bantam (hatched on the same day, came from the assorted bantam bin at TSC). I rehomed the other 3 chicks (the aggressors) BUT... What can I do when the silkie heals and grows up? I have 13 other chickens (huge coop and free range area, lots of room and...
UPDATE!
My little silkie keeps taking steps in the right direction and making more progress towards recovering :)
Part of the scab fell off, and now we have brand new skin AND feathers! !!
Wahooooo!! I'm so happy. He/she also has new feathers upfront :)
Speaking of he/she.. you guys have...
My ex Pearl, now Pedro El Grande, is the sweetest boy in the world! He loves to be picked up and carried around, has never ever tried to peck (me or my very curious toddler) and he is gentle with the girls. I really wish I could keep him... But I have to take him to the auction as soon as I...
UPDATE: She is making great progress!! She has new skin growing! She is also walking around and perching on the sides of the baskets, flapping her wings, eating and pooping a LOT!!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY, I think she's gonna pull through! I'm moving her to the bigger brooder tomorrow.
Here are some...
Thank you!!!
She is still hanging there. I cleaned her neck with cotton soaked in hydrogen peroxide and reapplied the neosporin again today. The skin on her neck was loose and looked like a bag, but today it looked more adhered and in place. She is standing at times and drinking water. Gave...
Thanks, I hope you're right! I can't believe the chicks attacked her! My silkie is my biggest baby, the other ones are sebrights half her size and a cochin that is smaller too... The missing skin was not hanging or anything like that, it was just GONE.
The silkie seems to be doing OK, at least...
