You're so right, but now I can at least fantasize...and in the future, perhaps donate a "class bully"

That's helpful to know about VINS - do they accept the occasional adult hen? (If "the girls" don't stop destroying my perennials, I'd like to have a handy threat for them!)

Hey there, Booted Hen, welcome! We're practically neighbors! I drive through Tinmouth often, especially when they have those terrific concerts at the Firehall. Booted Hen is such a neat name and brings to mind some old rooster episodes when we were both clamoring to be the boss. (I won) The next...

adopt "Rod Stewart" the rooster, 8 mo old Salmon Faverolle

We were sent too many roosters for our small flock and need to re-home Rod immediately. He's a handsome Salmon Faverolle, 8 mo old rooster. We live in central Vermont. Rod found his new home today!

    Flock decimated! Dog or coyote(s)?

Yeah, the portable electric fence is something we'll have to look into - it's the first time I've heard of it. I'm curious how the chickens within the fenced area can get back to the coop's nesting boxes as needed for laying eggs - ours seem to pooh-pooh any hint of a regular time for egg laying!

Why do you love your chickens?

I just love the way our "girls" (chickens, each with its own name) rush over to investigate any outdoor project we do, as if to ask, "Are you sure you're qualified to do that?" Trying to keep them from taking over as I was painting a picnic table and outdoor steps red was just too nutty - you...

I am afraid to go out to my garden

Last year we had a HUGE hornets nest the size of a short watermelon. We finally got brave enough to spray the dickens out of it at dusk (that isn't the time you want to discover your can of hornet spray fails to spray!) We later knocked it down and called it our Vermont Pinata! This year some...
