I appreciate you guys trying to help out. I figured it’s chances were slim. Got the new babies and everyone seems very happy about it. Never had Pekins before so that should be fun.
Yeah I was thinking the same. I was at the feed store the other day and they have their ducklings in. I’ll probably go get it a buddy. It’s already lonely.
Well after I typed that little bit crashed and didn’t make it. I tried. Lessons learned. I do however have concerns about other little baby being alone? I’m a stay at home mom so I’m here all the time but not a duck. Should I consider getting another duckling from the feed store for company?
So it’s still alive, weak and lethargic. The yolk sac was mostly absorbed but dried and disconnected. I cleaned the area and put some antibiotic ointment around it. I’ve given it some electrolytes throughout the night and morning. Only a few drops at a time. Sometimes it seems to be gaining...
I did end up moving it to the brooder and it looks like a good amount of the yolk absorbed but it’s very weak and lethargic now. I think it may be a goner but I’ll keep trying.
I’m on day 28 for incubating 2 khaki Campbell eggs. They both pipped and we’re hatching fine. My 3 year old hasn’t touched the incubator for all 28 days and I turned my back for less than 30 seconds and he crushed open one of the ducklings. Nothing malicious just curiosity and I didn’t have my...
They aren’t the best, but here are some more pics. I do wonder if the one is female. I was able to pick her up and I think I see the two toned feathers and a distinct quack. Lord I hope so anyway. I didn’t want one drake let alone two. 😂
I hope they aren’t both drakes, I swear I’ve heard the other one quack. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s quacking when they’re across the yard. Thanks for the chart! I’ll double check when I let them out this morning. 😬
I ordered 4 female ducks from a hatchery and I think one of my khaki campbells is a male? They are about 3 months old It’s head seems pretty dark in comparison to the other one and the voice sounds a bit different. I haven’t seen the curly feather but I’m not sure if it’s there or not. They are...
I also live in a neighborhood and my ducks are loud and obnoxious!! I love them but I’m sure my neighbors don’t. I have two lady Cayugas and they are the loudest pair of ducks I’ve had so far. They are the winners though because I always throw food at them to quiet them down. I’m well trained.
I’ve hopefully blocked
I’ve hopefully minimized the amount of draft in there and I have a heat lamp and thermometer underneath it, it was 77 degrees inside and 60 out so hopefully they fair well, I’ll just be getting up all night to check on them.
My 2 Cayuga ducklings are just over 3 weeks old. They’ve been in a corner of my kitchen in a kiddie pool. They are huge and a big mess... I’m wondering if I can move them out? I’m currently insulating my metal shed and putting up plywood for their permanent home however it’s not ready to house...
