just a quick update on my silkie mums the chicks are a few weeks old now and we moved them back with the buffs. they seem fine and are very inquizative lil buggers. pic was taken at 1 week old.
put 12 eggs under my 2 broody silkies 21 days ago( given to me by a farmer friend) . they got rid of a few which were no good. ended up with 7 good eggs which were kept. put them in warm water to see if they kicked and 5 were good. today is day 21 and we have 2 chicks so far and one more egg...
i got 3 sussex buffs and 2 lil white silkies and sometimes the silkie eggs are bigger than the buff eggs. they lay regular are great as brooders and seem quite tame, they like to be stroked well mine do. your choice at the end of the day but they are no trouble and easy on the eye
.
my coop cost $50 in materials and 1 day to build then paint the following day. this included hinges screws etc. i think i may come to the states and start a business making coops . by the sound of things i would have no trouble selling them.
i have 3 sussex buff,s called peggy dot and ethel, 2 silkies are called fat pat and janine, for those of you guys in the usa they are all characters in a soap called eastenders, collectively they are " the girl,s "
my girls must be happy i let them out this morning 1 egg, wife lets them freerange at mid day another 2 eggs, i put them away at 6 pm 1 more egg, 4 eggs 5 chickens 1 aint pulling its weight lol
