Nobody has had this happen or advice? If it is still stuck later today, I plan on taking her in and squirting some saline on it... warm her up, then try to get her back out in the coop before nightfall...
We've been managing through these really cold temps just fine, no heat other than their water, and their body heat! Well... until today. Bronwen (an EE) came out of the hen house with both eyes closed, then opened one of them. She kept the other eye closed. I couldn't see any problem, infection...
Our heater that goes under the waterer is having a very hard time with these super cold temperatures, and it is going to get even colder! I've been pouring hot water on the frozen ring, then lifting it out. What other options are there?
With regard to the water, if you are worried about the freezing, I'm assuming that you don't have a heated pan? We have a big metal puck looking thing that goes under our 5 gallon metal waterer and it works well. Just wondering if you have tried that. Our girls (all a little older) haven't laid...
I went out to water and visit my girls and found one (a BO named Annie Oakley) cold, flat, dead, next to the run's wall... a little under the bottom of the ramp to the roost. She wasn't pecked, looked great, other than being dead of course. I'm thinking she broke her neck or something... she is...
My EEs are so super social - they even share their nestboxes (and talk the another one into going broody when they feel like it). Always together and loving. Good Luck!!!
Broody can be bad too... My Geena is going on a month & a half and is skinny from not eating normally. I make sure she eats, drinks, and gets out at least twice a day. She is adamant about trying to hatch those pine shavings. We don't even have a rooster. I feel so bad for her, but Hubby says...
I think your idea of praying for them and then burying them is a good one... sad, but good. I would also go one step further and plant a tree or something on top, that way those eggs will give specific nutrition to plant that will in turn, supply a home to a bird someday. Good luck, I hope you...
Good luck guys. Pretty sure they will hatch when you actually aren't looking. So maybe you should take a walk or keep busy somewhere else. You may just come back to them all out!
That is a Cuckoo Maran egg and that is her chick! I know you don't *think* she is laying, but of my Marans, only one has a red comb and I get 3 Marans eggs from her and her sisters. Congrats. I think it is a marvelous chicky.
From your tone you sound like a good & caring person. Perhaps in your own head a "blessing in disguise" is meant one way... but to me it means that it is very good divine intervention that isn't seen as such right now. I don't see the death of a baby as good in any way. I *think* you meant that...
You know at first I thought, there is no way I could do this, but after seeing the video, I think I could. I'd have my mom (who is a RN of 38 years) and other helpers... Thank you so much for sharing! I am absolutely shocked by how much was in there though!!! Good job and THANKS for sharing!

I'm sorry -you are NOT being overly sensitive ...I would say to her you are now behind schedule in your incuabting needs and you need the bator back by a specific date without question-that means you need to incubate starting on this date NO LATER as you need to pick up yours by this...

Ditto... she looks like she could be my silver EE's offspring... if I crossed her with something with a little more lacing and a single comb. And yeah, what color egg does she lay? I'd say blue/green on first guess.
