Who is my mom?! (pic heavy)

i have a light bramha her comb in not pink at all. she is over 2 years, but she is laying. but with the color of your egg i would say maran. my cuckoos are from cackle they carry both feathered and not feathered legs. my chicks sometime come out with feathered legs sometimes. all my cuckoos are clean legs.

if the brahma was the mama the comb won't be single, i will agree with the maran theory. there may be feather legged gene on both sides, enough to make it show up.

Thanks guys. I agree it's probably the marans.

And a boy??!! Whooooooh I'm sooo glad I continued the hatch despite only 1 egg developing and then bought it 2 friends to brood with (which are both probably roosters, too). 'Cause what I really needed around here was more roosters.

Yes a Boy.

When you crossed your rooster with your barred hens (example - your Cuckoo Maran) the offspring will be sex-linked with the males being Black with a White spot on there head and females solid Black and no spot on there head.

That is a Cuckoo Maran egg and that is her chick! I know you don't *think* she is laying, but of my Marans, only one has a red comb and I get 3 Marans eggs from her and her sisters.

I hate to be a pain, Chris, but I'm confused now. I read the first post on the sex link thread and specifically the section on black sex links. It says to NOT use white birds in the cross because they all turn out with a white head. I'm not doubting your expertise on the sex links but can you explain how you know it's a sex link?

Thanks!!

Not a problem.
Your bird isn't White (or at least solid white) he is a Columbian pattern as in a Columbian Rock, Light Sussex, or a Columbian Wyandotte.
He (your rooster) is Silver based and acts differently than White when used in a sex-link breeding.
So when your rooster is bred to your Barred Rock and Cuckoo Marans you will get Black sex-links, now the reason I said the Cuckoo Marans was the mother and not the Barred Rock is because the chick in question has slight feathering of the shanks (legs) and Barred Rocks dont have featherd shanks.

I hope the helps..

Chris

Thank you! I do so much better when I completely understand an issue. This one is crystal clear now. Thanks again.
