Love my Buff Orpingtons! I have 3 and they are fantastic with kids. We have a small backyard coop with a couple of other birds, but these are my favorite. They don't mind the cold winter of the midwest, and with extra light, kept laying most of the winter except when it was really cold. Great...
I have 2 easter eggs chicks I got almost 3 weeks ago, and one has developed a scissor beak problem. I have read the older posts where it's recommeded to file the beak, deep food and water dishes, and of course I could always cull the bird. My question is this, I have 4 other girls in the coop...
That was hilarious! Had me going for a about 2 minutes, until I kept reading! I knew with 30 some pages and it starting this morning something was off!

I'm from Ottawa, Il, about 90 miles south of Chicago, and 15 minutes from Starved Rock State Park. New to owning chickens, but already having a great time!
That is hilarious! I didn't know what to call it.... I have 5 chickies in my brooder, 2 Speckled Sussex and 3 Buff Orpingtons, and it's one of the Buffs who does it the most. My son keeps saying she's trying to fly! They are so much fun to watch, and they are getting more and more used to me and...

I am new to owning chickens, and just a couple of months ago before making plans and ordering chicks I had to call my local city official to find out what was allowed. I live in Ottawa, IL, pop about 19,000, we're about 90 miles south of Chicago, near Startved Rock State Park (for those familiar...
I'm new as well, and have started my planning for my coop. I'm going to be using concrete pavers around the outside edges, (my coop will have an attached run), that the bottom framing (using treated lumber) will sit on, and using construction sand in the run. The whole thing will have a roof...
I feel for you, even well meaning, noisey neighbors can be a headache. I just got my first chicks this week and hope it doesn't flare up issues with a terrible household of neighbors we have living behind us. They have thrown things over the fence to our 2 dogs, but it was cooked poultry bones...
She is pretty... I wanted EEggers too, but my husband told me he wouldn't eat anything but brown or white eggs! Being I just started, I'll have to work on that one!
