Thank you all for the help. Just one last question. If I use pdz and or first Saturday lime can I compost it and then use it in my vegetable gardens? I want to be sure I am not adding anything to my vegetable gardens that would not be good for human consumption.
I don’t have any issues. I use pdz and pine shavings in the roost area and pine shavings on the coop floor. Have plenty of ventilation. My roost area is about 3 x 6, my coop is 6 x 8, my run is 5 x 6 and their yard is 8 x 12. I only have 8 hens.
I just want yo make sure I do everything...
Hi all,
1, Right now I have pine shavings in the roost area. Can I use sweet pdz without the pine shavings?
2, In my coop I have linoleum floor and pine shavings. Can I also use sweet pdz in the coop area?
3, Can I use sweet pdz in my dirt run and chicken yard?
4, So when I clean all these...
Hi All,
I wanted to get some help on how to integrate my two new hens to my flock. I've had them for about 2 weeks now. The other hens peck and chase them. What can I do? My new hens are about 5 to 6 months and my other ones are about 1 year old.

What is the best way to clean eggs with out rinsing/washing them? This is what I do: I just get a paper towel and damp it a little and then wipe the egg down. Is this good enough?
One of my hens has been laying very big hard shell eggs since she layed her first egg in June. But as of about 4 days now she is laying very soft eggs. The shell is very soft and floppy. She has also layed one in the evening and then one again in the morning. Just within the 12 hour range...
Well, this morning went out at about 6:08 and there it was on the floor. Very disappointing since she is my best layer.
I have a suspicion that she is laying on the roost and this is why I find the eggs on the floor. This is the third egg. The first one I found was pecked at, the second was...
No changes. No new chickens or laying ones. I plan to get up right at sunrise to see what is going on. If I see her on the floor I will move her to the nesting box. Don’t know what else to do.
Ok, so yesterday I found another egg on the floor.
My girls pecked at it and broke it. This morning I found another one. This time I found it before they can get to it.
I know which one is laying the egg on the floor. My question is, how does a chicken that has been laying in the nesting box...
