Thankyou so much ChickenCanoe, That is exactly the kind of
information I was seeking.
One more question if you would be so kind. If I replace the eggs under Ha'penny with a the live chicks will the chicks be safe sharing the coop and run with one rooster, two bantam hens, two bantam juvenile...
These last two eggs permit no light through at all now, I assume they are completely full of well developed fetuses. I candled them again just yesterday to see if I could make out the status of the fetus.
I know what you mean about dark brown eggs being too dark to candle, I have that problem...
Thanks, next time (if there is a next time) I will date the eggs. I don't have an incubator as I did not intend to have any more pet chooks. so I guess I'll just let her sit on them till they either hatch or she abandons them.Earlier I had I candled (using a small bright LED flashlight which...
One bantam chicken was brooding on 4 eggs. about a week before they were due to hatch my other bantam started laying eggs in the same box and went broody after she had laid about 8 eggs.. Problem is that the first hen was brooding on all the eggs.and eventually both hens were brooding...
Hi SlowQueen
All we have here in North Central Florida is sand too. (Florida is one big sand bar) I use pine shavings in my 8 beautiful chucks coop. I just sweep the shitty chips into the sand in the run when I clean out the coop (about once a week,) , It all breaks down quite quickly given...

Cochins and Old English game bantams are my favourites for their gentle nature and great personalities.

That webpage you posted (http://www.poultryhelp.com/chickenfacts.html) confirms the world record of 7 eggs from one chicken in one day as do several other links from a Google search.. The 6 eggs Penny laid on her first day were rather small all weighing 1.5-1.6 ozs each, but all were complete...
Cmom... I also had a hard time believing my eyes but I checked the laying box every day from their 18th week on eagerly anticipating my first egg...and on the 20th week one of my Cinnamon Queens (Penny) did lay 5 eggs in the early morning and later at noon the same day she laid one more.. I...
Right ADavid, one chicken laid 6 eggs on first laying day age 20 weeks,, one of my cinnamon queen's 'Penny' , laid 6 eggs on her first day of laying, 5 in the early morning and one at mid-day.. I couldn't believe my eyes either but it is true, since then one egg a day like clockwork at around...

Thank you jonalisa, I think they are rather beautiful too. Luck of the draw I guess because I bought them all from a local Tractor Supply store and had no idea what I was getting as they were all just fluffy little day old hatchlings at the time. I do prefer the name 'Cinnamon Queen' over 'sex...
Wow oh Wow...She (Penny) was 20 weeks old on 16th August and on that day deposited 5 eggs before 6.00AM in the lay box in the coop. ..plus one at mid day.(almost the world record which is 7 eggs in one day from one chicken) Since then she has laid one egg per day at approx mid-day.. Licken (my...
Thankyou Fred, that is exactly the answer I was looking for, straight forward and to the point. Now I will feed my chickens (5 in total ..2 pet cochin roosters, 2 great layers Cinnamon Queens and one little Olde English game bird bantam) 4 oz of layer crumble each chicken per day and they can...
I will try your recipe for chicken feed but I only have 5 chickens so will NOT be buying 400lbs of anything 40 lb bags are about my limit. Do you think I need the soy bean meal living in subtropical Florida? I don't have a grinder but I imagine a few pulses in my food processor would have the...
Is this not false information?.>> > chickens like pigs can eat anything, or (from a local chicken keeper) If they free range you don't have to feed them anything?..>>
I may be a wise old gal but I am new to rearing chickens, I have a lot to learn I know, so thanks for filling me in re. goats...
