    One Egg?!? Are they kidding me?

    Besides molting, they say they need at least 12 to 14 hours of light - could this be the problem for some of you? I know here in Michigan it's getting dark at my house at 7:30PM ish...Sun doesn't come up till 7:45 ish AM I have a light with a timer in the coop that doesn't shut off till 8:30

    Last week I went and bought a different brand of layer mash(it was on sale). Some of them also started laying eggs last week - woohoo! They just don't seem to eat as much of it as the previous brand I purchased...any ideas? I'm new to chickens, just want to make sure my girls are getting what...

    I am unable to post pics due to a missing chord that goes from the camera to the computer but.....I got my very first egg last night from my Austrolorp girls, they'll be 22 weeks old tomorrow - YAY!

    Hi Everyone! I'm from Charlevoix, MI and have 6 BA's that are now 18 weeks old today! Hoping for eggs soon! I have a 40' X 60' garden (which I enjoy very much) along with hanging out in my lawn chair inside my chicken run - nothing more relaxing - my friends all think I have lost my mind...

    Oyster Shells and Grit?

    I'm a newbie, but my understanding is the oyster shells DO NOT take the place of grit. Oyster shells are only provided to assist in egg production. Does that make sense???

    To insulate or not to insulate?

    I insulated mine and it didn't seem to make that much difference believe it or not. I had a thermometer in there for awhile and it was the same temperature outside as it was in (I have lots of venting though). We'll see what this winter brings though....I have australorps and they are suppose...
