It's been fairly consistent. I think the issue was I set a cycle for 21 days and I probably should have set it for 25 days for safety because I think when the cycle ended the humidity and temp dropped to maintenance mode. I think that's why we lost the five. I did one more assisted hatch on one...
As a side note when I opened the incubator it smelled really foul. I wonder if whatever happened to the first one spread something to the rest of them.
They were gone. Something went wrong when they zipped I think. We still have two that haven't popped or zipped at all yet but I don't think we have much hope. Out of twelve we got two.
Here I go again, lol. I think I know the answer is to wait but this time is different than my first hatch.
We started with 12 eggs. 3 quit around day 7 and were removed. Out of the remaining 9, 2 have hatched, 2 are fully zipped but making little progress, 1 zipped just today while I was at...
We saw some chicks at a petting zoo today that had fluffy heads and my husband and kids fell in love. I wasn't able to all to the owner so I don't know what kind of chicks they were. I wish I had pictures but they didn't tell me until later they wanted them. Can anyone help?
All of the eggs in the 12 batch are showing signs. We're excited and trying not to intervene too much but it seems at least 11/12 are fertile. I didn't take pictures of all because not all are camera visible.
Early signs of fertile eggs.
If you're concerned about it I would keep them inside during the day and transition them at night until the temp levels out to the 80s. That way they get used to the space they'll be moving too while still being safe from the day time heat. The ones in the run I wouldn't worry as much about...
If she's still caring for the hens I would not force a separation. I would go with the other option of putting them in a separate temporary enclosure but close enough by that the other chickens can get to their scent over time. Then once she lets the chicks she has go, combine the younger girls.
7/12 just hatched today. It was my husbands first time seeing the actual hatch and he was enthralled and as worried as I was on the first one. They all seem to have the same Mom and we are so excited we got so many out of a botched noob experience.
We have one more we're still holding from...
I have two eggs in the clutch from 7/5 and 7/7. The ones hatching now are from 7/9. The 7/5 is fully dark and likely lost and the 7/7 has a healthy air sac but no signs of internal or external pipping. Should I attempt to assist or is it probably too late? I read the article, just curious of...
And right now we're already at 4/12 with 5 still potentially hatching so I think we're doing well for a mixed hatch with me being a totally noob at this.
Thank goodness. I have another one that is in progress and a third that has pipped but otherwise hasn't changed. If she's still in tomorrow I might attempt an assisted hatching but I already told my son she's probably struggling and we can't expect every egg to hatch. He's taking it well for a...
This is my first time actually seeing the hatch. I only caught the last parts where she freed herself. Hoping it's normal for her to be so tired. The other ones they were already running around the incubator by the time I got home from work. Just checking for peace of mind. Thank you!
