    American serama thread!

I used simple strawberry baskets to make “chicken jails” (The plastic green ones they used to make). If you don’t care if they get mixed after hatching, then an egg carton can work. Remove the top half (cover) and cut off the 12 bottom circles of each compartment for increased air circulation...

    Spitzhaubens

Of course my son's fav Spitz this year has the worst crest. However, she is obedient and lands on an arm when you call her. She also loves to cuddle and is constantly underfoot. I find this behavior unusual, but he's in love, so this odd one gets to stay.

Although turkeys have a head start on ugliness, :tongue I'm sure you've got some better specimens. Got any pics when there's just one feather for a tail? Speaking of turkeys, mine have been very comical lately. They land on the back of a lawn chair and attempt to balance.... but inevitably...

So how is your frizzle looking? My poor hen is ready for the ugliest chicken contest. She's a frizzled silkie (or "Sizzle") who's molting hard. On top of that, she's going broody too.

    Spitzhaubens

I found this pic amusing. It looks like DS is having a conversation with a Spitzhauben. 🤣 (This was taken during the heat wave while at county fair) Speaking of the fair, DS won reserve champion and state fair delegate for photography: He also entered this in photo editing: The dressed up...

Our Dom pullet (Fizzy) won class champ (American Pullet & Best Standard Pullet). Our black Orp hen beat her and got Reserve Champion. (Our Orp was almost grand champ but a pretty, younger Welsummer hen won the final round.) Our bantams got several class champs and our bantam Wyandotte won...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I agree that your mystery hen was most likely due to employee error. "Chick days" are just that. A few days of the year when they farm stores sell chicks. Some employees may be knowledgeable about chickens; other not so much. Their goal is to keep chicks alive until sold. However in your...
