Well, all the eggs have hatched over here. I have 10 little duckies on my hands. 6 are leaving to their new home tomorrow and just had someone ask about the other. I guess I won't have trouble selling them around here! LOL!
They have no way of getting to the "outside coop" It was chilly here and they could easily slip out through the chicken wire I have up so I made them unable to go out. Momma was outside for a while this morning, but I have a 250 watt red heat lamp over the nest for them to stay warm.
I don't think inbreeding was an issue. There very well COULD have been a mishap...they were both fine that morning when I went out and by afternoon both were stiff. In the position of laying on their bellies.
Just found two dead babies out in the coop. They both hatched on the same day (March 9th). No blood, just looks like they laid down and died I guess? What could have happened??
I don't have a hygrometer in the bator. I have better luck going with the amount that has worked for me and not stress over the number..I have a soaked wash cloth in there from when I took the first egg out.
I helped my horribly shrink wrapped ducky (due to a coop accident) out this morning. No problems, no blood went without a hitch. came out of the egg into a paper towel on the palm of my hand. I'm afraid an egg that was pipped at the time may have shrink wrapped in the process of the quick open...
Phew! Thanks for the help! This is my first time with a truly shrink wrapped chick and although I'm not it's "Mommy" the instincts are still there! LOL!
I think I'm going to give it until morning. It still sounds strong and I have it all zipped and the top of the shell completely off. It can breath with out any problems and still has veins with blood in the membrane. I don't want to compromise the other two that have pipped. So hopefully it can...
