I keep mine at 60 for chickens.. but I'm sure someone will come along and tell you something different. Just sayin'.

Yay for Pekins. Are you keeping them?

DG, I haven't seen the babies yet! I will look though!

They are very pretty DG.

I got 2 beautiful baby Pekins!!

They are resting in the last little bit of yolk and stuff. One has its yolk almost all absorbed and the other one is close behind it. Nobody else in there has done anything yet. My chickens still haven't either. What should my humidity be for the chickens???

Around 60-65. yay for the pekins!

Hope someones on to answer. Can a chick die from shrink wrapping? I can see the beak and it's moving and breathing but also crying and looks like the air cell is kind of tight around it though the hole it made. I have two others eggs that have pipped in the incubator. I want to let it do it on it's own but don't want it to die if it needs help.

Cass, start helping. Shrinkwrap will kill. Remember to moisten a lot with q tips and stop when you see blood.

My husband reported that we received the Toulouse eggs (7 days in transit from illinois) and my cayuga eggs (2 days in transit from florida). I am excited about the Cayuga eggs. She did an excellent job packaging them. I seriously doubt that the Toulouse eggs are any good at this point, but I had hubby weigh and set them too. Ah well, it was only $35 and I have my precious buff dewlap eggs on the way.

Take the egg right out of the bator? I also have two others that have pipped.

Bring humidity up as high as you can in room... Best way is to have bator in bathroom so you can steam up room. Remove egg and slowly peel away shrunk membrane with tweezers after moistening with q tip in warm water. As soon as you see blood, put egg back in bator. Try to get humidity in bator up to 80%. wait at least 30 minutes, then repeat.

Jaz and eyeheart, I got the pic of the Cayuga flock tonight, but I don't know how to get it from email to site on my iPad. I will be home Friday morning, though and will post then. She also said she'd send me a pic of her magpies tomorrow. If anyone is interested, I will post that too.

To be fair, though, it's not the seller's fault that the USPS lost the package. I actually think it's a good compromise unless there was something else agreed on at the time of sale that covered what would be done in this circumstance. Were these an auction or just a private sale? If it was an auction, I'd go back and read what the terms of the sale were.
It was a private sale. Regardless, if I were selling eggs, I would want to make sure that my customer received fertile non broken eggs in a timely fashion, and to offer to send new eggs if customer did not receive them as such. It is part of building a positive reputation for future business. I received the eggs today and will not dispute the payment made, but do you think I will want to make any future purchases from this seller? Or knowing what I have experienced, would my friends want to give her business? Celtic's goose eggs were one single day later than expected in transit. She sent me email after email offering to send me new eggs at her cost if the eggs did not develop (and they are developing nicely). I will happily make repeat purchases from her and encourage others to buy from her. That is someone who cares that her customer is happy and will want to buy from her again.
