My Texas A&M quail eggs weight 14-16g, jumbo brown eggs weight 15-17g, the double yolk eggs are over 20g, the biggest one weight 25.5g. I...

My Texas A&M quail have slow grown after 4 weeks, at week 8-9 they are about 12-13 oz, which is 1 oz less then their parents on average. I think it's most likely the cold slow them down.

    I'm looking to get Quail...

36x20 brooder is too big for 7 quail chicks, it can fit 7 adults quail easily. Wire floor is much easy to clean. The temp in the brooder should be 95-98 degrees for chicks <7 days and decrees 5 degrees for each week of growth. The quail chicks will die if you turn off heater during night, they...

newbie needing help - humidity & brooder light

You can add a wet washing cloth in incubator to increase the humidity. To increase temp in the brooder, put a cover

    Troubleshoot my chicks:

The cheap plastic incubator is very hard to set the temp right, they might be off by a lot. Insulating it may help, epically in winter the room may be colder. If you put a pc fanin the little giant, you will do much better.

    New to raising Jumbo Coturnix

The fertilized quail eggs are the same as infertilized eggs for eating. You can eat them safely.

    New to raising Jumbo Coturnix

It all depends on how many meat quail you want and how large your cages are. For minimum you will need a brooder with heat lump for chicks from day 1 to 3 week old (or 4 wk old), and one or two cages for quail old than 3 week old. You can also just have one large cage for both breeders and...

Quail will take long time to mature in the cold winter, also they will not lay in the winter without extra light.

    Quail feeder not wasting food

Quail always waste lots of food when you use the regular feeder bought from store. I have try several different feeder and I finally found a very easy way to preventing waste food. I put a piece of metal wire on top of the food in the feeder, then I got a perfect feeder not waste any food. I...

    Troubleshoot my chicks:

I hatch many quail using my little giant incubator, my hatching rate range from 30% to 90%, so the eggs are good. The 30% low hatching rate is because temperature is too low, result few chicks and weak chicks. If chicks is hatching day 18 or 19, likely some quail is weak. It's possible you have...

Thank everyone who welcome me, very happy joining BYC. I am busy now hatching quail chicks, lots of them.

    Troubleshoot my chicks:

Also, you will get some weak chicks if there are not enough air flow during last 3 days of incubation. Still air incubator will more likely give you weak chicks.

    Troubleshoot my chicks:

I think it could because of the bad hatching condition so you start with weak chicks. Some of the weak chicks will have feet and neck problems, some will die with no reason. Did the chicks hatched in 16-18 days? How is the humidity level during incubating?

    Size requirements

Bigger cage is better, it's easier to set up the water and feed, birds are happier, and you can have more quail per square feet for the larger cage. 2x2 cage is too small, I think 2x3 is minimum. You can have 20 quail in 2x5 cage doing well, but 8 quail in 2x2 cage will be too crowded.

I used Dumors 24% before and it made the quail poop mushy and very smelly, I heard Dumors is made by Purina, so I never think of using Purina for my quail. Over last 6 months I only used Poulin Grain 28%, it seems doing very well for the first few months, the quail poop is getting much better...

I have raise quail, Texas A&M, and brown coturnix quail for about 2 years in my garage. The reason I choose quail over chicken is quail require very small space, and you can keep them indoor such as garage.

Thank you Simon. I use 28% game bird starter. I guess the heat slow it down, but not 100% sure. I live in Massachusetts which is cold. I also had another hatch, they are 2 weeks old, I will watch their grow as well.
