    Heartache of chicken keeping

I have been a chicken keeper for only 5 years. I love these girls like crazy. I want to be able to help them anytime I can when they are injured or sick. It's been a full year since my last girl passed until last night. We culled our sick girl that had been on and off sick for a year. I'm pretty...

    Easter Egger Not Laying

I'm glad you found us! My blue egg layer had a span of 30 days before another egg and then 7 days. It is so inconsistent! I have my other EE that lays light tan eggs and she hasn't laid one for about 4 weeks. I keep an eye on them and I've noticed they have poop that sticks to their feathers and...

    Easter Egger Not Laying

It's so interesting! Of my four I'm really just having problems with the 2. Today and yesterday one of them dropped an egg without a shell but also layed a jumbo egg.

    Easter Egger Not Laying

Hi! I found your thread in hopes to figure out if the same thing is happening to my EE. She use to lay pretty consistently but now it is only weekly, if that. Has yours improved at all? I have 4 EE and 2 lay consistently and another one started to lay soft eggs, turns out she had an infection...

    Soft Shells

Today has been almost the same as it has been. I did give her some Poultry Cell in the water and she drinks but still won't eat. She just stands in the same spot for 30 minutes and will move to a different spot and do the same thing. Her nose did seem moist but I'm not sure if it was from...

    Soft Shells

Update this morning. I found a soft shell egg with green poop next to it. Her crop is full of water and she's not interested in eating. Is also doesn't want to leave the coop.

She's only a year old. Do you think there is anything else I can do for her?

    Soft Shells

There has been no improvement today. I used sterile saline and flushed her vent. Nothing. Her poop this morning was runny. Right now she is standing but closing her eyes.

    Soft Shells

There hasn't been much improvement. There had been a few more soft shell eggs and the girls just eat them when seen. I'd been giving calcium citrate and hasn't helped either. I feel really bad, tonight she was in the nesting box and scratching everywhere. It seemed like she was uncomfortable. I...

    Soft Shells

I have 2 Easter Eggers that have consistently laying soft shell eggs. They have been on the XL size too. I have free choice oyster shells and limestone near their feeder. I don't see any of my chickens pecking at the oyster shells almost ever. I've crushed a few calcium tablets and put it in...

    No solid poop

I haven't noticed any fluid around her chest her belly. Just very skinny. Her crop at night is slightly filled but it feels mostly like water. She is very slow but moves around ok. She wants to eat and will run for food but obviously not getting much in.

    No solid poop

Now that I'm really thinking back of when this all started, it was a few weeks to a month after we did a full week of fermenting our chicken feed.

    No solid poop

Other things I've noticed the past few days are she has lost a lot of weight and if someone bumps into her she practically falls over. When she is eating she will pick at the food like she really wants it but doesn't actually eat a whole lot. She also frequently shakes her head.

    No solid poop

Since the snow hit they have been in a run. They eat a feed called Gallo Pro. She hasn't been acting normal for a bit. She doesn't run to the food anymore and only drinks a little. She has lost a pound or two of recently. Her crop was full this morning and she didn't have any solid droppings...
