    Mystery chicks

I bought 12 baby chicks at the local feed store that had been marked down to $2 because they were getting older and new babies were coming in soon. The elderly gentleman wasn't quite sure what they were, he said thought they were Buff Orpingtons. Two were a little darker than the rest when I got...

Best Time to catch a Rooster Please Tell Me

If I have to mess with any of my birds I usually do it right before it gets dark but after they are all on the roosts. They stay calmer that way.

    Sex-link question about wyandottes

Let me see if I have this right. According to the chart in one of these threads, if you cross a Golden Laced Wyandotte Rooster with a Silver Laced Wyandotte Hen you get sex-linked chicks, right? Does it work the other way around too?

APRIL FOOLS HATCH, give or take a day.....who's in ??

In a million years I would have never believed it. The two eggs that had pipped but didn't do anything all day yesterday throughout the whole power outage fiasco actually hatched last night. When the power came back on I cleaned up the incubator and through the four that had hatched earlier...

APRIL FOOLS HATCH, give or take a day.....who's in ??

...to 20% then bounced all around, but never higher than 40% in the past 18 hours while the last 7 have hatched. And temps have been anywhere from 72* to 101*. I think that I will never stress about a batch as much as I have will this one. Obviously the numbers just don't matter as much as I...

We have pips! What do I do????

5 of my eggs are hatching already and we just went into lockdown yesterday. What do I do? Leave them in the incubator until the rest hatch? I'm not supposed to open the incubator tomorrow right? ACK! This is so stressful!

    Cackle Hatchery?

I ordered from them for the first time last year and plan on ordering from them again. They did call me last year because the partridge rocks I ordered weren't available for the ship date I selected. They gave me the choice to either wait until they were available or choose a different breed...

What did you name your chicks?

I warned my kids that they were not to name any of their chickens. My middle son said it was too late, he had already named his Dee Lishus.

    A box of bantams

While I've always had chickens, I've never had bantams before and I've never bought from the feed store. Usually when I need to replace my flock I order one or two specific breeds from the hatchery. Can someone help me out as to what I have here? The first two chicks look similar in color...

Red Roof Hens and Lonesome Pines farms cookout & hatching egg hunt,GA

This sounds like fun, and I'm not very far away! I'll have to see if I can figure out a way to separate my silver-laced wyandottes from the rest of the flock so I can bring eggs. If we have kids do we bring regular easter eggs for them to find?

APRIL FOOLS HATCH, give or take a day.....who's in ??

I candled mine yesterday, we had 27 good eggs, 5 that I couldn't see a thing and 9 I wasn't sure about. The kids and I cracked open the five plus 3 I wasn't sure about. All three were good and one of the 5 was good. Since we had never candled before we caulked it up to good experience. My...

APRIL FOOLS HATCH, give or take a day.....who's in ??

I just put 41 eggs in the incubator for the first time. If I continue checking on them every 15 minutes, it's going to be a LONG three weeks

I think I have two different breeds

Really? This is a picture of my other black sex links and they don't look that similar too me. Their coloring looks more like my daughter's EE than my black sex links. Is there more than one way to get black sexlinks?

I think I have two different breeds

I received 5 chickens from a lady on freecycle that couldn't keep them any more. She told me that she bought them at the feedstore and that they were all rhode island reds. Two of them I am positive are not, but I don't know what they are. The other two hens might be, but the rooster makes me...
