We love them here too, I usually get a couple bushels a year fresh from the oysterman before they hit the market.
This thread got me thinking, guess I need to call him and see if he can hold me a bushel this weekend.
My GP lays around with the chickens, goes in their run when it's open and eats their food.
Our Aussie however wanted to chase and kill them when I first got the birds. I took him out with me one day with a shock collar on and when he went after the birds I zapped him. I haven't had any...
My last hatch, 6 out of 8 where cockerels. I split the chicks with a freind and I have 3 cockerels and 1 pullet.
All three are up for grabs if anyone wants them, they are 4 weeks old today.
They are located in Chesterfield County VA.
Another great hatch.
I took the bator over to a freinds with 11 partridge rock eggs.
They threw out 3 clear eggs at 2 weeks, all 8 of the others hatched yesterday right on time day 21.
I had been thinking about finding an old freezer and making a different bator with some of the parts I used...
I've got some eggs hatching today, any way to sex the chicks besides vent?
I know about the head spot and leg color on the barred rocks, just wondering if there are any similar methods on the partridge?
We built a new house 2 years ago on some acreage, and shortly after moving in found 6 headstones lined up in the woods 100 yds behind the house. None of them have markings, their basically just shaped stones. We also found a couple other stones on the other side of the property in the woods...
I snapped a pic of my keets today now that they've started to feather and just thought I'd share
2 powder blue, 2 brown, 2 chocolate, and 1 pearl. I also have 5 pearl and 2 pied that are 14 weeks old.
I don't mind them eating the bird seed too much, but they got into my garden and ate 1/2 my corn. 8 squirrels have mysteriously disapeared from my yard in the last week
I used 2 100 watt bulbs in mine, thought being that I wanted it to heat up quick. As long as the thermostat works well and it doesn't overheat, I want it to get up to temps as fast as possible.
The other American made option is Henry Repeating Arms, although more expensive than Marlin.
On the import side, Uberti and Chapparal and I'm sure others.
All of these are lever actions, I'm not aware of any bolt actions in pistol calibers.

Yes, The bulb died in the flashlight in the pic so I bought a new LED light instead of replacing bulb. The new LEDs are very bright and easier on batteries.
Since we're doing show and tell, this is my deer rifle. As I stated in an earlier post, I deer hunt with shotgun and rarely ever use a rifle unless I'm hunting with someone in a rifle county. I think I may have carried it once in the last 5 years.
This is not a fancy rifle, and not a caliber...
I've got some 12 week olds and their flying up into the trees when they get spooked. They've been flying up onto the roof of their coop for weeks now. I know nothing about game birds, but guineas fly well, and start young.
Thanks, that's the same response I got on the guinea board.
Temps jumped because of the heat here, so i turned off the lamp and opened the window on the front of the brooder.
I hatched 8 guinea keets last fri/sat. They have been in a brooder in the garage by themselves all week and doing fine. I switched from papertowels to pine shavings on Wed with no apparent problems. They're growing fine, eating and drinking fine and I haven't noticed any health issues. A...
Rifles aren't allowed where I deer hunt, shotgun only with buckshot. The deer are almost allways running full blast too, as we hunt with dogs. 00 buckshot does just fine and knocks most deer off their feet and they usually don't get back up. I took 5 deer with buckshot last year and only had...
