Oh dear! Luckily we don't have that problem with our cats, they seem to get along fine with the chickens and they don't go near the eggs in the kitchen.
The Amber Rock is going in to boarding in an hour! I'm dropping her off at my friend's house and she is going to look after her for a week or 2...
Funnily enough, I had a chat with a friend yesterday who has 8 chickens and she's agreed to take my Amber Rock in with hers, just for a couple of weeks so the Amber Rock can get re-adjusted and learn what it is to be bottom of the pecking order!
After that then I hope after bringing her back in...
Haha! My chickens are Kentucky, Nando and Korma!
When we first got them they took ages to lay and after about 3 weeks I was getting fed up of constantly cleaning them out and feeding them with no results!! So I told my boyfriend if they don't start laying soon I'm going to donate them to their...
Yes they all lay fine now, we had a few issues at the start where the Rhode Rock was laying shell-less eggs and sometimes didn't lay for a day or 2 but when she laid finally they were double yolkers!
Now they all lay fine though, each lays 1 a day no problem, I'm just waiting now for production...
Yes I bought all 3 on the same day from Taylor Made Chickens by the Endsleigh Garden Centre. I've been back there to seek help from Matt there and he's suggested a few things but nothing has helped and I've resorted now to keeping the Amber Rock separate from the other 2.
There were never any...
Hi,
No we still have bullying issues! The Amber Rock now has to be completely separated from the other 2 because we noticed that even when all 3 had the full run of the garden, she would just run around following the others and start pecking the other 2 and wasn't at all interested in pecking...

This is the egg the Rhode rock laid yesterday morning, looks like a raw boiled egg, really rubbery but with no shell

This is what she...
I hope she gets better soon then. She laid another one this morning without a shell, the membrane broke so it just looks like a raw poached egg! I've got a pot of oyster shell grit for them to eat but maybe she's not eating enough or doesn't like them. I'll wait for them to get back to normal...
Ok, so since the Amber rock has been separated from the other 2, there's been a bit more peace. She quite likes it in the pet carrier I keep her in, she's been laying everyday since I put her in there and even when I let her out to clean the crate, she wants to go back in as soon as it's been...
Thanks!
Ok so crack of dawn this morning I went to let the chickens out in to the run and the bald patch has got worse, it looks a little bit like when I scrape the top layer of my skin and it starts to pus when trying to dry up to heal. I got the pet crate out, filled it with straw, threw in...
Thanks for the reply- I've just tried to google Blu-kote but I don't think we can get that here in England. Is there an alternative or any sort of home remedy I can use? I've taken a photo of the pecked spot and it looks like where the Amber rock has literally pulled out the feathers, it's...
Hey guys,
I'm kinda new to this but I have 3 hens (1 amber rock- she's white, 1 rhode rock- she's black & 1 columbian black tail- she's brown) which we brought home just over 3 weeks ago. During this time, they started establishing a pecking order and I noticed that the rhode rock (black one)...
