Change in pecking order after the first egg laid??

If you aren't willing to eat one have you considered trading the Amber Rock or, since you are probably pretty attached to her, the problem hen? Often a hen that is aggressive in one flock will not be so in another. People often want to "rehome" timid hens, and as long as you are honest about the problem with who ever you trade with it really might work out better for both hens.

BTW many chickens don't molt their first winter. If they hatched after mid July they more than likely will not molt till next season.

Funnily enough, I had a chat with a friend yesterday who has 8 chickens and she's agreed to take my Amber Rock in with hers, just for a couple of weeks so the Amber Rock can get re-adjusted and learn what it is to be bottom of the pecking order!
After that then I hope after bringing her back in she will then be bottom of the pecking order at our house.
I wasn't sure if they would moult this winter, they started laying in April, but if they don't then happy days!

Oh dear! Luckily we don't have that problem with our cats, they seem to get along fine with the chickens and they don't go near the eggs in the kitchen.
The Amber Rock is going in to boarding in an hour! I'm dropping her off at my friend's house and she is going to look after her for a week or 2 and see if after that she calms down and settles back in to the bottom of the pecking order back at mine.
Watch this space!
