How much do you sell a dozen eggs for and how much for a two year old hen?

Hi folks. I live here in central Texas. We currently get 3 dollars a dozen for large brown and green eggs. We get 15 dollars for a two year old hen. What are these going for in your neck of the woods?

    Bacon and eggs

There is nothing better than a hot breakfast of hashbrowns, bacon, and eggs. I start with a cast iron skillit and two tablespoons of oil at medium heat. Once heated I shred one meduim potatoe and spread it out in the pan. I cook it untill it turns golden brown on both sides and remove to a warm...

Rescue Chickens (and maybe a rescue turkey?) with severe health issues....help!

Good luck. I feel bad for you and worse for the birds. These sick birds may never get well and unfortunatly any air borne disease they have may be transmitted to your birds. I would take them back or dispose of them before you loose you healthy flock.

My goose was attacked by a dog and isn't walking. Help!

You could take it to a vet but that is prohibitavely expensive in my opinion. The bird may heal up on its own. We had a guinea hen that lost the use of one leg after the dog got to her. She lived and healed but never regained the use of that leg. We named her hoppy. She hopped around every...

    Tornadoes and Free-Ranging…Thoughts?

They will be better off in the coop. If the coop doesn't blow away they will be protected from wind and rain and debris. If the coop goes air born the chickens can still fly out the bottom and have a good chance of survival.

    different shades of green?

Those eggs should become more consistent in color as she gets older. However after a couple of years the eggs will lighten up generally. The shape and size can change as well. Obviously as they get older the eggs will become bigger but when she starts a new string the first of the string is...

I would guess you could keep about 6 hens comfortably in that coop. It looks great. Good Luck.

    One chicken not laying

Most likely they are all laying but you will not get an egg every day from every hen. So 5 eggs a day for 6 hens is a very good ratio. I have 10 Golden sex links about 20 weeks old and we average about 8 eggs a day from these hens. Today was the exception. We got 10. We have raised chickens...

    Mille fleurs...

Mille Fluer is a color. If you are looking for a specific breed you should also post it. We raise D Uccles but the Mille Fluer color can be found in several other breeds as well. We are in Texas so probably won't work for you.

    Wanting to breed

If you want to make sure you should eat any of the eggs until after about 10 days. Then you should be in good shape for pure bred eggs.

    Turning eggs under hen

If she had not turned them in 10 days then it is probably too late. Give them a few more days and candle them again. If they are well you should see blood veins and movement within the egg when you candle.

How much does age affect hatching egg?

We have hatched eggs that were up to two weeks old. It depends on the conditions of which they were stored. My biggest concern here is the temperature they were stored at in the post office. They may still be fine. It is worth trying for sure.

Pasty Butt cleaned off but lethargic and not peping up

It does not look good for this chick. I would seperate her from the others and keep a good supply of vitamin water for her. She will either pop out of it or succomb to her problem.

Lost entire flock in 2 days

Because there was not any damage to the hens it seems it must have been a quick killing disease or poison. Quite possible some bad feed.

teeny- tiny little bugs in coop but don't appear on chickens?????

If you are still having these issues you could post a close up picture of these bugs. I have a good friend that is in the bug business and could probably tell you what you have and how to exterminate it.

Things you never said until you had chickens.......

Darn it I wore my poop shoes in the house again. Make sure there are no chickens in the back yard before you let our dogs (Black labs) out. Ouch! That stupid chicken bit my toe. Arg! I knew I should have never put that egg in my pocket.
