    Show Breeds for County Fair

Thank you, everyone! Any advice on raising the show chicken(s)?

    Show Breeds for County Fair

Do the bearded Belgian bantams (like the one you mentioned above) do well as show chickens? Are they friendly or timid?

    Show Breeds for County Fair

Thank you! :) I have actually owned both Brahma and Cochin bantams (frizzle Cochin shown in avatar photo), and like both breeds. However, I am looking to reach out to a breed I haven't had before. I had wanted to do an Ayam Cemani, but found on other threads that they aren't the best show...

    Show Breeds for County Fair

I am just signing up for FFA at my high school, and am interested in showing chickens at the county fair. I am entirely new to the whole show chicken thing, and don't know what breed to get. Any suggestions? (I would prefer bantams)

    Broody Hen... Help!

But on second thought, I do need some more EEs. I lost my last one a month ago. If I were to give her fertile eggs, where should I get them?

    Broody Hen... Help!

Hmm... if blocking the nesting box and taking the eggs doesn't work, I may try the caging method. I would just give her fertile eggs, but last time I had a broody hen, the majority of the eggs didn't hatch. And half of the chicks that did hatch didn't make it.

    Broody Hen... Help!

I'll try blocking her nesting box and see what happens.

    Broody Hen... Help!

One of my Buff Orpingtons has recently gone broody. There are currently no roosters in the coop, and she is with six other hens. She had been coming outside for a few minutes for food, but today she stayed in the nesting box. I haven't tried taking the eggs yet, but I don't think it's going to...

    What Killed My Chicken?

Then what happened to the feathers on its neck?

    What Killed My Chicken?

Yes, the run is completely covered. There is also chicken wire on the ground along the base of the run to keep the raccoons from digging under.

    Peeling Feet

They're in a coop w/run. At least three out of seven chickens have the peeling feet. I'll try to post some pictures of it later today.

    Peeling Feet

Over the last few months I've noticed that multiple hens in my flock have peeling feet. They are all at least a year old. Is this normal, or should I be worried?

    What Killed My Chicken?

But wouldn't a raccoon just have pulled its head off? The chicken's neck was still entirely attached, but void of feathers.

Hen Vomiting Feed And Acting Sluggish

Thank you. I've been raising chickens for almost four years now, so I'm not unfamiliar with losing them. But it's always upsetting when you can't save one. Especially the younger ones.

    What Killed My Chicken?

Earlier this year, I found the body of one of my standards in the run. Its (don't remember the gender) neck was completely stripped of feathers, and its chest was hollow (eaten). This happened through the chicken wire. I know we have raccoons, opossums, coyotes, foxes, etc., but does anyone...

Hen Vomiting Feed And Acting Sluggish

Thank you, all, for the feedback. Unfortunately, I've been busy these last few days and had no time to take her to the vet. This morning, when I went out to feed the chickens, her body was in the run :( I buried her with the other bantams I've lost these last few months. Thank you again for the...
