Costco shed coop + DIY covered run on slope progress album

Thank you! I will create one. Does it matter on which wall it is placed? I assume it should be on the wall opposite the biggest windows, but that wall happens to be the most exposed (not enclosed with fencing). I’d prefer to place it on one of the walls that is within the confines of the run.

Costco shed coop + DIY covered run on slope progress album

Thank you! I replaced all the existing acrylic windows (4 on doors and 2 on gables) with 1/4” HW cloth, and added that one 6” cut-out. So far it seems good, but the birds are not full sized, so I expect they will need more air flow. I got some advice on a separate thread about this - I will...

Costco shed coop + DIY covered run on slope progress album

Finished this project just in time for the chicks 1 month birthday. Took 3 months total, mostly weekends, and spare hours here and there. Other than putting on the roof panels and digging / ground prep, I did everything by myself. At times, a small child was available to hand me screws or...

Converting Suncast Modernist shed to coop, progress pics

The chicks are moved in! Night 1 was a success - it helps that it’s summer. Temps are in the low to mid 50s overnight

Need help for a run on a sloped yard

I sympathize, we are also on a slope and have a lot of rain. We don’t have as much clay as NC but it doesn’t take too much digging to hit clay. Ended up putting a roof over the run, there’s just no way to escape mud where we are without cover. You can see my comment history for a photo. Used...

    Mid July Harry Potter Hatch-a-long

The five HP hens are 1 month old today and have moved to their outdoor run and shed coop! Last night was their first night in the shed. I installed a low roosting bar so they wouldn’t have to get up too high. I also ran a cord and plugged in the brooding plate for little Luna - she is mostly...

    Mid July Harry Potter Hatch-a-long

Hermione, Hagrid, Neville and Dumbledore have been rehomed to a friend’s much larger farm. Now it’s just the 5 ladies. They are almost 3 weeks old and doing great. I am trying to complete their chicken palace (coop and run) as fast as I can so they can move out of the tent in the garage...

Guess hen or roo while I wait for DNA results!

I sent in tiny blood drops (from clipping a nail to the quick, then dabbing the nail on a piece of paper). Each paper was labeled with a number. At home, I have a chart with the numbers matching up to leg band colors!

Guess hen or roo while I wait for DNA results!

I recently hatched a Harry Potter themed flock of 9 chicks and am waiting for the gender test results to come in this week. While I wait, I thought it would be fun to get people’s guesses. Chicks are 11-12 days old. #3-6 are Black copper Marans #7-12 are Olive eggers I have my suspicions...

    Mid July Harry Potter Hatch-a-long

Day 11/12 with the flock! Observing them, I have the feeling the majority of them are roosters 😭 Still waiting for the test results to come back. It hasn’t been as quick as I would have expected. On the upside it’s given me time to make some educated guesses for fun EDITED BELOW WITH [RESULT]...

Luna’s lump (likely her crop) has resolved this morning. She is enjoying the day outdoors.

10 day old OE chick undersized and possible air bubble

Thank you - I will check her first thing in the morning She eats dry chick starter and drinks water fine. She also will accept yolk/chick-boost solution out of a syringe slowly (1-2ml per session). I tried starting them on wet fermented mash earlier as a flock, but they didn’t seem to like it...

10 day old OE chick undersized and possible air bubble

Hi everyone I have a flock of 9 OE and BCM chicks, and one of the OEs is noticeably smaller than the rest. I noticed it a few days ago and fed her an egg yolk / electrolyte slurry via syringe intermittently for 3 days. She seemed to improve and is more social / pecking / eating with the flock...

    Mid July Harry Potter Hatch-a-long

Luna (orange band) is gradually improving - not out of the woods yet but she has her spunkiness back. They got to go outside for the first time today. They lost their minds 😂 Had the best time and screamed when I had to put them back in their tent.
