We've been really busy this past year. We made a big move. We finally pick up chicks next week to start again after having to sell our last flock to move across the country.
Hi everyone,
We had one of our girls crack one of our broody hen's eggs stepping on it. The membrane is completely intact still and we do not have an incubator. We have 2 questions.
1) is the egg still viable? We are on day 17.
2) we are thinking of moving her. We have built a little...
We ended up with 7 out of 9 being boys. We've added some girls and have away the boys and we finally have our little flock of 6. All of the ones pictured above have found new homes. It was sad to lose my have raised birds.
Hi everyone. I'm very new to raising chickens and I was hoping to know what you all think are essential items to have in a first aid kit for your flock. We only have 6 girls, but things can happen and I'd like to be prepared if possible.
Thanks so much
Ours are still babies and they don't leave the run. We haven't decided what we will do when they start free ranging. We have several tall trees in the yard, so I imagine if we ever need to call someone to get a chicken out of a tree, or if they start going into neighbours' yards we would have...
Just over 9 weeks now! We raised them from fluffy just hatched chicks. I can honestly say they are the best entertainment, and having have raised them, they are so snuggly.
That's what I thought. We have a few girls but definitely most of them are boys, I just really needed a second (or really as many as possible) opinion.
Thank you so much. I feel more confident in my choices of who I'm trading.
Update. We will be swapping boys for girls soon and want to make as educated a guess as I can. Here's some better pictures than my last ones. Just shy of 7 weeks.
Thank you so much!!!
2 of the barred were hatched by a friend's hen, I'm not sure where she got the eggs, and the others were hatched by someone local. She's willing to buy back any roos, so that's not a huge concern, but you do fall in love and hope for more girls!
Pic 3-5 are the same bird. I know the one barred is a cackerel, I just wasn't sure of breed. They have a lot of yellowish undertone, so assuming not barred rock.
Thanks for your input. I'm hoping for more girls, but I think I picked almost all boys (that would be my luck haha).
Hi,
I'm Shelley.
I'm only 5 weeks into being a chicken momma, raising some chicks. I have 9 babies and of course I have no idea what most of them are. I'm hoping for girls as we aren't allowed any boys where I'm located. I'm so happy to have found such a wealth of information and knowledge...
Hey everyone! Everyone seems so knowledgable here and I'm hoping you can shed some light on a few questions. My chicks are 5.5 weeks. I'm not sure of the breed for 4 of them. And I'm not sure the sex for 5 of them. Any insights would be so much appreciated. New to this and I didn't...
