Wow what sweet duckies you have!! I have no experience with fox, but we have coyotes.they are always getting a chicken or duck here and there and it is so sad. I only let mine out in the yard when I am outside then I chase them back in the run when I go inside, ducks at least are easier to chase...
You may have one of each of something! I ordered 10 JG, I think I ended up with 8 barred rocks and 2 JG, one is possibly a rooster, haha oh well they are both good chickens. I guess it's my luck😊
I am really thing the hatchery messed up my JG order! They all look too speckled I think I ended up with barred rocks maybe that's why they looked like yours!!
Aww well you will have to wait and see!! Although the black giants are very nice birds if they turn out to be them. I have many of them and they are gentle and sweet! Good luck!!
I am wondering the same thing! I have one egg in my incubator right bow that looks nasty but with only 7 days left not sure what to do! Candled them at day 10 and they were all good. Guess I will wait and see and risk explosion 😬
We have temps that cold and more, with more then one or two days of -80°F wind chills and temps of -50° for days at a time here in North Dakota. I ONLY use a heat lamp when the air temps are lower the -40°F and only at night when the temps are lowest. Then I turn it off during the day so they...
The key up here is to keep them out of the wind and dry. I keep mine in an uninsulated coop and they do fine with a dirt floor. When it gets below -30 wind chill I give them a heat lamp. We also have about 100 birds so they generate alot of heat. I usually stay away from breeds with large single...
I like that you used it for a great purpose. My main coop is an old building I fixed up when we moved to our place, I had to tear down drywall, rip up a rotted floor, reframe a window and door, make a roost and boxes, and it turned out great. And it was fun. I hope you had as much fun with your...
We have found the culprit, it being a chicken hawk. We have put netting over the top of the run and have had no losses since. I hope it continues to be deterred by this and dont try to sneak in somehow. Thanks to everyone for helping me out!
Thanks for the input, we are in north Dakota, and today haven't had any losses, just worried about when I can't be here . I hope the culprit comes out soon so I can see what I'm up against. I dont think we have any opossum here so my guess from your reply in dealing with a coon.
It started Tuesday with a random dead bird, no signs of being eaten. Then Wednesday when I got home from work I found 2 of my 2 month old light brahmas gutted out and left in the run. Thursday one more now Friday 2 more! I am so upset and dont know what could be doing this. We do have a few...
I think if they were a week old they should be ok, the parents usually raise the babies together and they do pretty well once they aren't tiny and just hatched. I had let my momma out after a few days and she only lost 1. I think you are ok to let them out, but be careful, if you have chicken...
Our guineas do not scratch up the flowers but they do eat some of the strawberries and tomatoes on the edges of the patch. Not anything major. Weigh your pros and cons
