    Speckled Sussex Thread

Last night one of my SS, Junie, hopped up on my leg and settled in for some pets. 🥰 My girls are around 18 weeks now and getting so big!

Poll: How did your partner react to you keeping chickens?

My husband wanted them more than me and pushed for them. I loved the idea of having chickens and fresh eggs, but was reluctant. I knew I'd be doing most of the work since I work from home, and didn't want to deal with chicken poop on top of running after a toddler and our dog lol. I finally gave...

Australorp 4 months old and still barely any comb/wattle but all others have them??

One of my two orps is like your Aussie - she has a tiny comb with barely any wattles, while the other has a big comb and wattles. They're both around 4 months and neither has started to lay just yet, though both hens' combs are getting pretty red. Mine has no issues with eating either and she's...

'Sweetest' / most human friendly chicken breeds

I have five 3 1/2-month-old speckled sussex and two 4-month-old buff orpingtons. I've had the sussex since they were chicks and I handled them often. They're all really social, eating out of my hands, jumping up to perch on me, and coming right up to me when I'm in their run. In terms of being...

    Sussex

I'm new to Sussex (and chickens in general) and mine likely won't be show quality, but I adore my five Speckled Sussex. 🙂 They're so friendly and curious, and they love to hop/fly up to my shoulder. They're around 9 weeks old now, closer to 7 weeks in the 2nd picture. Looking forward to seeing...

    Speckled Sussex Thread

I haven't had any issues so far with any of my five (knock on wood), but they're only 7 weeks old. I'm sorry you've had so many issues with your hen. ☹ That must be so frustrating. It seems like she's quite the character though, and sounds like she's got a great home with you!

Oh, she's so pretty! Seeing photos of her as a chick up until now is so cool - it's neat to see how much they change as they grow. 🙂

She's so cute! She sounds super fun, too. My speckled sussex are kind of nutty, too - I wonder if it's a breed trait haha. They're so much fun.

    Speckled Sussex Thread

Hi everyone. I'm new here and a new mama to 5 speckled sussex! I thought I'd share some pics. 🙂 They're around 4 weeks old. I'm absolutely in love with them. They're so friendly and social, and want to hop right out on to me when I open the door to their crate (they're in an extra large dog...

    Hi from Ontario, Canada!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Brand new to chickens. 😁 I got my first chicks mid-April. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 5 chicks that are now around 4 weeks old, with two more young pullets (around 8 weeks old) coming next week. The chicks...
