Help with ID of this Hen

Also interested in the comb. From this angle it almost looks like a single comb? I wouldn't be surprised if there was ameracauna blood in the lineage, but diluted. She has a profile I associate with ameracaunas/easter eggers, despite the lack of muffs.

    Hawk attack/predator attack

Disinfecting wounds early (with alcohol, iodine, hydrogen peroxide; although these can cause some damage to tissue) can help, but it can be hard to get in there fast enough-- you probably couldn't have done much more than you did. I've had birds walk around for a few days after an attack in...

Trouble walking and sneezing in small home flock

The infection appears to have run its course at this point, there was one more casualty, but everyone else has recovered. Although this is good news, I have a suspicion that this was an instance of MG. For now I've been using different clothes/boots when accessing my other flock, and they've...

    Emu Fencing

There definitely is, I've had a good time looking through them in the past months (though I only really got caught up today). Amusingly, I feel like I know a fair amount of the people here, but I realized no one knows me! Thanks everyone for the informative discussions, even if I'm looking at...

    Emu Fencing

Just found an older fencing thread, super helpful and informative. I'm seeing that portable may not be the way to go, perhaps I'll have to permanently divide a pasture into parts with a taller fence, and rotate the birds in there. Thanks for your input, it's been thought-provoking.

    Emu Fencing

Thanks for the responses. Firstly, @casportpony , As far as pasture size goes, I'm presently figuring that out. There are three different areas of 1-3 acres each where I can see the emus working, two of which are already perimeter fenced (for deer- large metal fences). We also have a space...

    Emu Fencing

Hey, thanks for the reply! I haven't, simply due to the lack of emu breeders in my area. This was my first attempt to reach out about fencing, I was hoping someone on BYC would have some advice or comments. Thanks!

    Emu Fencing

Hi everyone, I'm curious as to the fencing needs of emus. I have cattle panels as a possibility, but would like to be able to set up a portable system for a few birds, so I can rotate smaller pasture areas within a larger perimeter fence. Cattle panels are currently the frontrunner, but they...

Trouble walking and sneezing in small home flock

Thanks for the response. After a day of researching/analyzing, I actually had it narrowed down to infectious bronchitis and Marek's, so I'm glad there's agreement there. I put electrolytes in their water and I'm keeping them warm for the night, but I suppose only time will tell. Regardless, I...

Trouble walking and sneezing in small home flock

Hey there everyone, I have a bit of a mystery I hope you'll help me with. My parents have a small flock of chickens, kept on a grassy enclosure which is moved once every several months. The coop has proper ventilation, and they're fed layer pellets or poultry/fowl crumble. Most of the birds...

Does my GLW have a Guinea gene?

I would agree, but also add that for this to be possible it would have to have a guinea parent, as the guinea-chicken crosses are infertile. If this was possible in your situation then I suppose it's a possibility, albeit unlikely.

    Shetland Geese

Hey all! Not to bring this thread back from the dead or anything, but as a fellow shetland goose lover I felt it necessary. :D I bought two pairs from Holderread in 2012. Last year was the first year they'd have a good chance to breed, from what I've read, and I let them go broody, but got...

    Chantecler Thread!

Really lovely chanteclers everyone, the show I went to in Washington last week only had three! I've been trying (with varying amounts of success) to get a nice flock going for several years now, near Hood River in northern Oregon. I'm looking for folks who will ship juveniles to Oregon, or will...

    Dead Guinea, need help

I'd agree that that's the uropygial gland, which has a variety of lovely functions when working correctly, like waterproofing and maintaining feather integrity. That one appears odd though, maybe a clog or infection? I don't have direct experience with an ailment like that, but it might be...
