Thanks for responding. So Tylan 50 is exactly what a vet would give me? Or would I still be better off contacting a vet?
And does this mean that all birds I will ever have will be considered carriers (unless I were to completely cull this flock and start over)? I find that quite upsetting and...
...injectable and for cows/pigs and couldn't give any advice about it.
Now I'm hearing a few other sneezes from my flock (though everyone else still *looks* ok - not like the lethargic rooster). What should I do? The office I spoke to did suggest a vet, but if she's just going to give me the...
Thanks, everyone.
I put some eggs into her nest and she settles right on them. The problem (?) now is that other chickens keep laying eggs in the coop and she keeps adding them to her nest. She was sitting on 9 eggs this morning and she's only a tiny bird! Should I take some away when she's...
I have a Silkie hen who's been broody for just over a week or so. I haven't let her sit on any eggs (there are other hens laying and she'll just go and sit on them until I take them away daily), but now am thinking about giving her some to hatch out (or try). Has she been broody for too long...
For anyone who's interested, I have hatching eggs from a mixed laying flock available for sale. A dozen eggs for $10 or 2 dozen for $15 (when available). Can also through in some purebred Silkie eggs, when available.
I also have an automatic egg turner for sale. It's for the LG incubator and...
I sell mixed hatching eggs that include Easter Eggers and I also sell Easter Egger (and other) chicks, but just sold out of EE till next batch. I live in Esopus (12487), so not sure if I just squeeze in to your hour drive!
I posted this on the Silkie Sexing thread, but I think it got lost. These 2 hatched out at the end of July and I'm still struggling to sex them. No crowing or eggs yet! Help! The top 2 pics are for 1 and the bottom 2 are for the other.
I have a LG Still air incubator that I've used for a few hatches (with mixed results). I was recently given an Incuview and its running now with its first batch. I was thinking of running two bators, one for incubating and one for hatching. Any tips? I think I had bacteria issues with the LG on...
I feel like I should be able to tell already! But I'm a bit stuck...They hatched out at the end of July. The first 2 pics belong to one and the lower 2 pics belong to the other.

Hi, thanks for responding! She seems better, though the walking still isn't right. It appears that the outer toe of her left foot is curled in a bit. She has now fluffed out, is hobbling around, and cheeping constantly as she's the only one who hatched (this was a very disappointing hatch!)...
...but quite dry and crusty- not fluffy).
I just took her out of the incubator and put her in the brooder and she's not walking right. She's not standing on 2 legs, but rather kind of shuffling along. She seems alert and very 'cheepy.'
Anything I can do to help her?

A chick hatched last night. She zipped, then seemed to get stuck, and couldn't get the shell off. After more than an hour, I used tweezers to help her. The membrane was completely dry where she had zipped and her feathers had dried to it in some places and I had to help her get it off. So far...
We have a pip!!!
And I was gifted an Incuview incubator and one of those Brinsea brooder heaters!! Can't wait to try them out!

...(though I have a good candler) or what. Any idea what would cause all of one type of egg to fail? Are there pics of bad eggs online so I can have a look and make a guess? Just find it odd that all 3 from one chicken should stop developing when the others are ok.

I'm thinking about getting some call ducks this Spring (I think chickens were my gateway drug!). Can I run my idea for a set-up by you...
My chickens forage/free-range in a fenced in back yard (about 1/4 of a acre is fenced in, I'm guessing). We have one of those decorative pools (about 3 feet...
