My 3 yo bantam cochin hasn't been feeling well for a few days.
I found her just sitting in the yard, keeping to herself. When I picked her up, I inspected her vent and found broken egg membranes hanging out. I tried to get it all out but couldn't. I've been watching her ever since and...
I misread your post... You said you saw egg clusters at the base of the feathers. That is lice... I am pretty sure they had lice when you got them. It's just something that happens and doesn't have anything to do with you :-)
One way to deal with lice is to force a molt by not feeding the...
It is possible that they are just molting. That does happen and they look terribly ratty for a while and won't lay eggs.
Chickens do have lots of bald areas on their bodies so that isn't really a big concern. And chickens do preen constantly so that isn't a concern either.
If you pick up...
I have had a few local people express an interest in these birds so it looks like I won't have to ship. However to the locals, it's going to have to be first come first served unless I get payment in advance so I can reserve these birds for you. I've responded to a few people and offered them...
If I cannot find a local buyer, I will ship but it is expensive so let me exhaust my local resources first and I will get back to all those that pm'd me. Thank you :-)
I have 5 MF bantam cochins for sale. I hatched them from birds I got originally from Lynne at Wingshadows Hacienda (wwmicasa1)... I have a hatching addiction and my yard is seriously overrun with chickens. I want them but I just can't keep them.
There are 4 pullets and 1 cockerel. You...
I need to sell this pullet... We have too many chickens. She recently started laying and gives us about 5 eggs per week so far and should become a very prolific layer of large off-white eggs. She is a cross between Maria Hall's Jersey Giants and Trader Joe's Chickens (hatched from eggs I bought...
So here is my experience...
five chicks hatch = five roosters
five chicks hatch = four roosters, one hen
two chicks hatch = two roosters
Good luck with those stats
Just for information on constipated chicks... I have given olive oil enemas using an eyedropper. I had to do it several times to a few chicks but it totally helped and they pooped HUGE amounts when I did it and they eventually grew out of it.
Really sorry about your chick.
It really depends on the breed of the chicken and how many you have at one time. I've had very friendly chicks indoors as well as under momma hens but I've also had very skittish chicks as well. The fewer, the friendlier and easier to handle but if the breed is sketchy, not much is going to...
