With the days in the 90's I've started putting the store bought chicks outside.
I used a few old pallets and some wire and made a make shift playground with cover.
Heres my 10 enjoying the fresh air outside. I bring them in at night.
Heres broody momma doing her chicken momma thing...
10 chicks in the brooder, actually in a pen in the yard now.
2 chicks free ranging with momma.
Momma hen today reintergrated herself back into the flock,
with her chicks.
These birds will take care of the chicks, you should see her
attack the puppy, or even the adult dogs when they get to...
Momma and the chicks explored the yard today for the first time.
I even built a hut for them, but that didn't last long, they got out and went back towards the camper.
So I picked up the hen that HATES everyone without issue and set her and the two chicks back
in the crockpot.
Now I've added...
I use the lamp in one corner, about a foot off the floor of the brooder,
The chicks are smart enough to know if they're to hot or not and move
away from it and find a comfortable temp they like.
People worry to much.
Call the Sheriffs detective and explain the situation and see if the Dog threat falls
under the Terroristic Threatening statute.
That is really uncalled for. I would personally be on craigslist tonight looking for free or cheap
adult roosters. But that is just me too.
I'm an arse and know it...
And then there was TWO.
I checked before work this morning and the second had pipped so I knew when I got home there should be another mouth to feed.
Well there is.
These are Cuckoo Morans, one is a feather leg and the other came out not.
You can sex these from the markings.
So I got one...
Post them on Craigslist and you can find a good home.
I adopted a couple roos after I lost a few to a dog.
The peoples little girl was so cute, she hadto ask if
we was going to eat her Roosters.
I told her now they was going to live at my place and
keep my hens company since they lost their...

Its an old one, and its an old Pickup Truck Camper, the hens was laying eggs on the stove in there,
so I seen the crockpot laying there without the glass part, so I tossed some wood chips in it and they
started laying in it.
So planned, not really just a matter of it was handy and...
Its some cage I found in the shed, 250w heat light, you can see the starter crumbles, and then some regular feed for a snack, and in the corner is an old ash tray with fine silt/sandy dirt from the drive.
The black container gives them some place to play king of the hill.
Heres the little ones debut appearance.
This is the meanest hen you ever seen, she was raised by another broody. So people are not something she cares for.
I was out of town since Friday morning, and I came back this afternoon and checked on my broody.
She had a dry fluffy fuzzy butt under her. Two more eggs under her, the other hen laid one of them last week in her nest.
So I doubt its going to hatch, but the second that I saved from the snake...
My first batch of chicks, the boys dog got several of them.
So we got some more from the same lady.
We raised them, and a broody had some chicks,
then something got several of the oldest hens and roos.
So I was down to 6, 2 roos and 4 hens.
Then another DOG. got 4 more.
Now we got 10...

I got my first chicks a couple years ago.
I was down to four hens and two roosters.
then dad decided he wan't a NEW dog, (we live in the same 14 acres)
He got one that was about a year old.
In a week and half, I lost 2 hens and 2 roosters.
I raised cain with mom over it and the dog left...
Well we had a hatch....
10 hatched out of 30. My fault partially, didn't mark the eggs.
Hens killed 4 litterally squashed the chicks tween eggs.
They left the nest today, eggs was cold.
Well I pulled the remaining eggs and started culling them. Of the 20 or so, two was still alive.
One was not...
I've never candled eggs before.
Well I went out this eve and candled some of the 30 under under my hens.
Cuckoo Morans lay a Golden Brown egg so they're hard to candle.
I found 3 that was plain cold they was laying out from under the hen. One was mostly clear, probably layed in the last two...
